Job Details

braidThe Practice
Braid Vets has been providing care to Edinburgh’s pets since 1967, primarily at Mayfield Road but also at two branches at Leith Walk and Dalkeith. Having established the first private Veterinary Hospital in Scotland in 1990, we continue to strive to provide high quality companion animal care across all disciplines. Braid set up its own OOH emergency service, “e-vets”, in 1998 and provides this service to nine other local practices.

Location
Known as ‘Auld Reekie’, Edina, Athens of the North and ‘Britain's Other Eye’. Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. A lively city in a fantastic position. Built around a safely extinct volcano, between green hills and blue sea; there’s only one Edinburgh.

The Role
We have an exciting full-time opportunity for a Clinical Director to join our well-established small animal practice.

The successful candidate, an MRCVS, will have previous management experience and be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills, enabling them to be responsible for the management functions of the practice, as well as providing back up for the clinical rota as required. These will include:

  • Line management of the clinical team
  • Recruitment and retention
  • Promoting best practice and customer care
  • Identifying areas of potential business growth
  • Planning and implementation of practice development
  • Setting and implementing practice budgets
  • Supporting and developing colleagues, acting as a mentor
  • Creating and maintaining a positive image within the local community

Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will work alongside another Clinical Director and be supported by the Practice Manager. You will need someone to be an excellent communicator, who thrives on positive interactions with clients and their pets, and with an aptitude and desire to manage and lead a high performing veterinary practice.

We are looking for someone who will manage Braid’s continued evolution, will maintain the extremely good reputation, and will help to steer the highly skilled team to continue to improve on the level of care and service that the practice provides.

The Package

Healthshield, cycle to work scheme and other flexible benefits available.

CPD funded and development encouraged.

Closing Date: Wednesday 25th December 2020.

Company

There has been a veterinary practice at 171 Mayfield Road in Edinburgh, Scotland, since 1967 when R. F. Hall moved his mixed practice from Stafford Street in the New Town to the present site.

The practice remained a mixed practice treating farm animals, horses and small animals through the 1970s and 1980s until the demographic and economic pressures on farming resulted in a shift to small animal work only in 1990.

This change coincided with a major investment into the practice buildings and facilities by the partners, resulting in the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons granting Veterinary Hospital status to the practice in January 1990. Braid Veterinary Hospital was the first veterinary hospital to be registered in Scotland.

pic-sunsetSince then the hospital has built up a reputation for quality veterinary care, in particular in the fields of veterinary surgery, dentistry, internal medicine and behavioural problems. We employ a high number of Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVN’s) to support our veterinary team, and Braid is one of a small number of Vet Nurse Training Practices (TP’s) in Scotland.

In September 1999 the hospital also established an emergency clinic “e-vets” which provides emergency care for the clients of eleven local practices, including our own, 365 days a year. In order to provide this service the hospital employs three dedicated emergency veterinary surgeons and two dedicated veterinary nurses who between them provide care and treatment for emergency cases throughout the night and at weekends.

August 2003 saw the opening of our new Leith Walk premises. This facility includes two consulting rooms, a large treatment room, a dedicated operating theatre, an x-ray room, laboratory equipment and kennelling for dogs and cats. These enable us to provide all of the services required by the local pet population, with the exception of overnight hospitalisation.

November 2007 saw the building of further extension work to our Mayfield Road Hospital finish, to provide a larger and more welcoming Reception, with separate cat and dog Waiting Areas.

May 2008 saw vet Scott Dickson’s role within the practice change to that of 3rd Partner.

The partners are committed to continue to provide a high quality health service to all our patients and clients, and are constantly measuring the practice performance against the very best in the U.K.
