Job Details

Sandhole Veterinary Centre in Sandhole, Kent, is looking for a full-time vet – with bias towards exotic species – to join its award-winning practice. The candidate must be either a certificate holder or studying towards an exotics certificate.

The Practice
This well-equipped, first opinion practice was Petplan’s Practice of the Year in 2018, and promises high standards of both customer and patient care. Its team of nine vets includes two medical certificate holders, a cardiology certificate holder and several vets who are working towards certificates, including surgery and exotics. It also has 10 outstanding RVNs, with a vet once quoting: “If Carlsberg made nurses, they would be Sandhole nurses.” The practice also has a customer care team, animal nurse assistant and office team; and facilities include ultrasound, digital x-ray, two theatres, separate dog and cat wards, exotics ward, full Idexx lab suite, endoscopy, dental x-ray and on-site crematorium.

The Role
The role consists of a four-day week, with one in three Saturdays and one in three weekends (Sunday hours 10am-noon), and no out-of-hours expectations. The role has a bias toward exotic species, but the successful candidate will also see small animal cases.

Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will have at least three years of experience.

The Package

  • Salary dependent on experience.
  • Five weeks of holiday allowance.
  • Team discount scheme.
  • RCVS and VDS fees covered.
  • Generous CPD allowance and support.
  • Pension scheme.

Location
Located in Kent – close to M20 and M26, with easy access to London and the coast.

Company

The surgery moved to Sandhole Farm on October 30th, 1989 and became a full time surgery. It was manned by one vet, one nurse and one receptionist. In 10 years it had grown to three vets, four nurses and two receptionists and had outgrown the premises.

The site of Sandhole Farmshop was acquired and this marked a four year battle to get planning permission. This involved three applications, two planning appeals and the services of a planning consultant. At last we got permission.

The present Sandhole Veterinary Centre opened on October 9th 2006. There are now five veterinary surgeons, eight nurses, a Practice Manager, six receptionists and our crematorium manager.

This Practice has always treated dogs, cats and rabbits; in the last five years we have dealt with more and more exotic animals; these now account for 5-10% of our work.
