Job Details

We are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join us across three sites including a central Southampton clinic, a clinic in the New Forest and a clinic near the ancient village of Upham. The person should be competent to do sole charge (though this will usually only be on a Saturday or in our branch clinic in the New Forest).

The rota each week is three ten-hour days, one nine hour day and one in eight Saturdays 08:30 to 16:30 (sole charge). There is no OOH requirement with this role. Our OOH provider is Vets Now and our local referral centre whom we work closely with is Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists. There is support available from experienced vets and certificate holders plus our nursing team is made up of nine RVNs and two student nurses.

Unicorn Vets is a three-site clinic with a central Southampton clinic, a clinic in the New Forest and a clinic near the ancient village of Upham. Southampton is an amazing city, which combines a medieval history with being the hub of modern sea faring. There are thriving paddleboard and kayaking clubs in the area, as well as a number of marinas plus scuba sites. If this is not to your taste then the New Forest provides an excellent location for walking, horse riding and biking as does the Jurassic Coast. We are a team of nine full time vets, nine RVNs and two student nurses plus client care assistants at each site.

We have a clinical Director, Practice Manager, Reception Manager, and dedicated administrator. If you want to be a part of a fabulous, diverse, and supportive team whose goal is to provide the best clinical care whilst supporting team and clients then Unicorn Vets could be for you. Our goal for the coming year is to improve our sustainability and support our team members in their personal clinical goals. Our best asset is our team. Each site has digital radiography, ultrasonography, and an in-house laboratory with Idexx machines. We also have tonometry and endoscopy available between the three sites.

We require a veterinary surgeon with UK experience and someone who has excellent communication and soft skills. They should be competent and confident in surgery and medicine (including neutering of cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs). Being comfortable with our small furry patients would be useful however we can support learning in this area. An interest in imaging and cardiology would be a benefit. Salary commensurate with experience - range of £35,000 to £55,000 per annum (full time). Part time/job share will be considered for the right candidate.
