Job Details

West Midland Safari and Leisure Park is currently seeking a confident, forward thinking, enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to join our resident RVN and wildlife team. This is an exciting opportunity for a vet with exotic experience to conduct preventive care and provide medical attention to all animals on site from reptiles through to large mammals. Zoological experience is preferred but guidance and support is available. Attractive rota with minimal out-of-hours work.

The Practice
West Midland Safari Park is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and critically endangered species, with a four-mile safari drive-through, walk-through Discovery Trail, African Village and Lemur Woods exhibiting hundreds of exotic animal species with close encounters opportunities galore. The 200-acre site includes a wide range of catering and retail outlets, and a large amusement area with over 25 rides and attractions providing the ideal venue for family days out.

The Role
West Midland Safari and Leisure Park are seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join our resident RVN and Wildlife team. This is an exciting opportunity for a vet with exotic experience to conduct preventative care and provide medical attention to all animals on site from reptiles through to large mammals. The role is full time, working five days per week, with four days on site at West Midland Safari and Leisure Park and one day at Drayton Manor Zoo.
In this busy and varied position, you will be responsible for the generation and implementation of health care programmes, conducting regular preventative care to maintain animal health, maintenance of WMSP'S BALAI status and record keeping. The role will work collaboratively with Wildlife Management to support staff training, health and safety, animal husbandry, animal relocations.

Successful Applicant
The role requires someone who is confident, self-motivated, and enthusiastic about veterinary care for exotic species. You will have a professional attitude and be able to work to tight deadlines in a way that promotes the safety of the Park, its employees and animal collection. You will demonstrate your experience as an efficient and organised professional, who is able to communicate across all levels of the organisation.

The successful candidate will need to be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon registered with RVCS, Zoological experience is preferred but guidance and support are available.

Due to the nature of the role all candidates must have a full, valid driving licence. You will need to be flexible in your approach to work outside of standard business hours, including weekends.
