Job Details

Hart Vets has been caring for pets since 1993, when the practice was founded by Ian & Clare Hart. Whilst we are now members of the Independent Vet Care group, we maintain the feeling of a very family orientated veterinary practice with a modern small animal hospital in Bicester and a stand-alone practice in Waddesdon.

Our surgeries have been designed to provide the highest quality of care using the latest technology for diagnosis and treatment. Hart Vets is dedicated to providing quality health care with compassion. We like our patients to see the same vet whenever possible and we care for your pets the same way we would want our own pets to be cared for.

Our surgeries are air-conditioned and we have separate dog and cat areas so that our patient environment remains calm. We have night nurses up and awake throughout the night, caring for our patients at our Bicester Veterinary Hospital, as well as having one of our own vets on call.

Our dedicated night nurses ensure that our patients receive the same high standard of care at night as they do during the day. We are the only veterinary practice in the area to do this. The nurses answer the phone during the night and will only contact the on-call vet if they consider it necessary or if there is a concern regarding one of their charges.

Hart Vets is very proud to have achieved RCVS hospital standard at our Bicester practice and RCVS General Practice standard at out Waddesdon surgery We employ 13 vets between our two surgeries (10 fte) with a wide range of skills and competencies. We have certificate holders in Surgery & General Practice and others working towards similar awards.

Two of our vets have been qualified for over 30 years and one for only one year, so you can see, we have a wealth and wide range of experience. Both surgeries are extremely well equipped with digital x-ray, endoscopy, ultrasound etc. If there is a particular piece of equipment that you would like, then suggest it to us. We are always happy to listen and will consider all requests.

Hart Vets is a forward thinking, fast paced hospital practice, with a dynamic team that work synergistically together. We have a variety of levels of experience, age and qualification. This allows our twice daily rounds to be supportive and informative for all. Further qualifications are encouraged and funded as CPD.

As we have a new graduate soon to join our team, we are looking for a vet with experience to complement our 13-vet team. Working a 4-day week with 10-hour days, it allows for a proper rest day. There is one night on call in the week and a full weekend at a ratio of 1:6.5. Occasional Saturday mornings will be required at our Waddesdon stand-alone practice, which is only 12 miles from our main site. Consults are 15 minutes long but are extended on an individual basis if we feel further time is warranted.

There is a potential relocation to a purpose-built hospital in Bicester on the horizon, and all the team are enthused and encouraged to offer experience and knowledge to create an even better working environment than we have now. We are very much a team at Harts, supporting one another and encouraging people to grow within their job role. This busy but rewarding role will suit a dynamic person with experience under their belt that is possibly looking for a little more in their work.

We have very experienced team members that will be on the floor to support you and on the phone at night, however we also need the successful applicant to have enough experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to want to motivate and mentor more junior members of staff. Your holiday allowance is 5 weeks plus bank holidays. The bank holidays are equally shared between the vets in the team.

We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic, motivated individual who will slot into our ever growing team from day 1. Someone who sees their long-term future with Hart Vets and wants to contribute to the very fabric of the practice. Our new colleague will want to gain experience and learn from others, while still being able to offer guidance and support to more junior members of the team.

We are very much a teaching practice and the successful applicant will want to be able to learn as well as offer those mentoring capabilities. We encourage further study including certificates in your chosen discipline and will endeavour to support the successful candidate as much as we can in achieving that goal. We want to provide a comprehensive service to our loyal clients and help bond new ones to our surgeries. Ideally as happy in the consult room as they are in theatre, the successful applicant should thrive in that environment. Whatever your skills, whatever your goals, if you like what you have read here, we would relish the opportunity to discuss this position with you.

  • 25 days paid holiday not including bank holidays
  • 5 days paid CPD leave
  • £1250 CPD Allowance per annum
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • VDS Membership paid
  • BVA Membership paid
  • Service based holiday entitlement increases

Company

Caring for pets since 1993, Hart Vets is a family run veterinary practice with modern surgeries in Bicester and Waddesdon. Our  surgeries have been designed to provide the highest quality of care using the latest technology for diagnosis and treatment.

Hart vets are dedicated to providing quality health care with compassion. We like our patients to see the same vet whenever possible. We care for your pets the same way we would want our own pets to be cared for.

We have on-site parking available for clients at both our Bicester Veterinary Hospital and our Waddesdon surgery, with disabled access to our waiting rooms and consulting areas. Our surgeries are air-conditioned and we have separate dog and cat areas so that our patient environment remains calm.

Unlike most veterinary practices, we have a nurse awake caring for our patients at our Bicester Veterinary Hospital every night, as well as having a vet on call. Our dedicated night nurses ensure that our patients receive the same high standard of care at night as they do during the day, every day of the year. We are the only veterinary practice in the area that employs dedicated night nurses to work throughout the night caring for our patients.

Most of our clients live locally in the Bicester – Aylesbury area, but many of our clients come from nearby towns and villages including Oxford, Kidlington, Thame, Brackley, Banbury, Buckingham, Winslow and Milton Keynes.

Hart Vets is one of only approximately 150 veterinary practices in the country that have achieved the standard necessary to be accredited as a small animal veterinary hospital.
