Job Details

Harlow Vets4Pets has an exciting opportunity for a personable and approachable Veterinary Surgeon to join our fabulous and supportive team!

harlowBased on the busy St James Retail Park, the practice is just a 5 minute walk from the train station, a short drive from the M11 J7 and just 20 minutes from Stansted Airport. The practice also offers free onsite parking.

We are a friendly mixed age team who focus on learning, evidence based medicine and co-operation. There is an excellent family vibe through the practice and we will go out of our way to support and assist our team inside and outside of work. We are open to new ideas and try to be the practice our team are proud to call their own. We encourage personal development through CPD and are happy to support study towards certificates for the right individual. We also offer complete clinical freedom.

You will be joining an experienced and established team made up of 3 other Vets, 8 Nurses, 1 VCA and 2 Receptionists. The team benefit from a variety of individual interests including certificate holders in medicine, endoscopy and surgery as well as a member of the nursing team holding an advanced diploma and two with the ISFM Advanced Diploma.

The partner, Garrick, graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2005 and has now spent many years in the UK. He came to us from a practice in Dartford, having enjoyed 2 years with them. Garrick became a partner in the Harlow practice in June 2011. He prefers the medicine side of veterinary work over surgical procedures and achieved his GPCert in Small Animal Medicine in 2013, his GPCert in Endoscopy in 2015 and his PgCert in Small Animal Medicine in 2017 Garrick is now pursuing a GPCert in Exotics to expand his knowledge in small furries and reptiles. He is particularly successful in helping clients to maintain the quality of their pet's life during terminal illness. Ruth qualified as a nurse in 1987 and has been with the practice since 2007 after a varied career. She is passionate about providing a great working environment and a great client experience.

Person Specification
The role would suit a Vet who is comfortable with routine surgical and medical cases but who seeks to expand their skills in more complex cases. A particular interest in medicine or other non-surgical discipline would be an advantage but is not essential! We require Vets with a real client/patient focus and the ability to build strong, long term relationships.

You will also have confidence in your ability, good time management and organisational skills and enjoy working and communicating as part of a team. We are a busy practice therefore you will thrive in a fast paced environment and enjoy the variety that it brings! It is rare for cases to be referred outside of the practice and team members are encouraged and supported to work up their own cases to a high standard.

Benefits
In return, the partners offer:

  • Relocation rent for 3 months
  • Competitive salary - £35-£55,000 depending on experience
  • Enhanced annual leave
  • 1 in 3 Saturday only rota
  • No OOHs and only occasional sole charge
  • Pension scheme
  • CPD funding (min. of £1000 + 3 paid CPD days + certificate funding for the right candidate)
  • Exclusive colleague discounts
  • Pastoral care, emotional wellbeing and support
  • Paid memberships – RCVS, BVA, VDS

Locally owned practices with a world of support

At Vets for Pets we’re a network of practices that are owned and managed by the practice owners that run them. Because they’re locally owned, each practice has the freedom to serve patients and clients the way it thinks is best.

But crucially, being locally-owned also means enjoying a truly team-spirited atmosphere. We want all our colleagues to build lasting relationships with practice owners and team members as well as patients and clients.

And because we’re also part of a wider group, you’ll get all the support you need when you need it. That means state-of-the-art facilities, high quality CPD, financial stability and a real sense of job security.

With our framework, we’ve made it simpler and easier for you to help patients and clients live happier, healthier lives together. It’s about making the most of your expertise and bringing this to life in practise while being safe in the knowledge that you’re looked after too. Simply put, we offer locally owned practices with a world of support.

Flexibility & Wellbeing
You tell us which hours you want to work, and we’ll do everything we can to make it happen. With us, you could enjoy a better work-life balance where flexibility and wellbeing come first.

Training & Development
We offer great training programmes, plus fully funded CPD, leadership courses and access to our group’s learning curriculum. We’ll also support you if you’re interested in owning a practice. With our wealth of resources, it’s easy to build your skills and develop your career.

Local Practices
With us, no two practices are the same. We’re deeply rooted in our local communities and we want you to really get to know your patients and clients locally.

Being part of the Pets At Home Group
Being part of Vets for Pets means you’ll be part of our network of locally owned practices. Our practices are located across the country and are owned and run by our Joint Venture Partners (JVPs). Our Joint Venture Partnership model is unique and gives everyone the best of both worlds. Working within one of our practices you’ll get to work with the JVP who has the clinical freedom and autonomy to do things their own way.

As we’re part of a large respected organisation you’ll also enjoy the benefits of being part of a wider PLC Group. This means we can give you greater stability and job security during these uncertain times and beyond.

What’s more, we’ve worked hard to make sure everyone in our group can take part in a fun, friendly, professional and inclusive culture that allows you to bring your whole self to work and be at your very best.
