  • Do you like to create and follow protocols, so things run smoothly?
  • Would you enjoy taking a trainee nurse under your wing and passing on your skills, so you help grow the next generation of Veterinary Nurses?
  • Are you looking for an independent practice that cares about the team and wants to create a practice where everyone can thrive?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then please read on…

About us

Roundwood Vets exists to deliver veterinary care to thousands of pet owners in London in a sustainable way that works for everyone. You might have noticed that the veterinary model feels a little broken, well we’re working hard to change that and create a culture/service where pets, people and practice can all win.

Why? Well, it’s super simple, we love pets and we love our jobs and we want to keep doing this for a long time!

We’ve been around for over 14 years, but four years ago we took the practice over and transformed it from a sad and lonely little clinic into a vibrant, bustling practice.

Alongside the investment we’ve made in the renovation, equipment and processes; we’re working hard to create a culture where you can develop new skills, take on new challenges and grow as a person and as a member of the team.

Speaking of the team, when you come to visit us you’ll sense the difference for sure. The vibe is good and though we work hard, we try to have fun doing our jobs. Clients and visitors tell us that we have great energy.

Led by Dr Jo we are on a journey to create a fun and sustainable version of veterinary practice where everybody wins. We’re not there yet, and COVID has thrown some real curveballs for us all in veterinary medicine, but we have made great progress and are utterly committed to making this a reality. Where many clinics are selling out to corporations, we’ve just created our mission plan for the next four years and are committed to it. (We'll show you this plan at an interview!)

In terms of what we are like as a clinical practice, we think of ourselves as being a bit like a family doctor. We are definitely here to help the local community and their pets. We believe only the best is good enough for the animals we work with and we like to do our jobs to a high standard. COVID19 has had a dramatic impact on how we do this so we have all had to adapt to new processes, but we recently took on a full-time practice manager and we now think we have worked out a good way forward for everyone.

About you

You’ll be a qualified veterinary nurse or final year student vet nurse with at least a year of experience in small animal practice. You’ll appreciate being part of and contributing to a team that enjoys working together as well as playing together, well - sort of - we will when COVID19 allows.

At work you’ll be someone who enjoys the interaction with people, you’ll also be really good at handling multiple things happening at once. In fact, some people mistake you for an octopus because you simply have to have eight arms in order to work the brilliant way you do!

You’ll be a fan of checklists because they help you to get everything done and you pride yourself on working to a high standard whether that’s clinically or hygiene.

You love being a vet nurse. And the best thing in the world is seeing that sick pet eating again as a result of your effort, or the moment a puppy enters the building or seeing the wagging tail and joy of a pet owner as you reunite it with its owner.

There are a few other things that matter to you in your work, these are things like conscientiousness, honesty, teamwork, fun, kindness, growing and learning. These things also matter a great deal to us, so we’ll probably get along well.

Key duties

One of the biggest challenges any vet clinic faces is ensuring things get started on time. We’re no different, so you’ll need to be confident enough to chase our vets to get started and keep things running smoothly.

You will need to be prepared for operations, give safe, reliable care of the animals before, during and after procedures and make sure all instruments, materials and drugs are prepared and ready for use for each op.

You will need to ensure animals are kept under control and are prepared, ready for procedures. This includes keeping all animals safe and healthy before, during and after procedures, restraining animals so that the vet has the required access and, very importantly, that the animal is comfortable. (No need to worry about the vet, they can take care of themselves).

We like our animals to wake up safely after each procedure so you will be responsible for ensuring anaesthetics are carried out safely.

It will also be part of your duties to keep any infections contained and make sure all areas, equipment and material are kept clean.

You will need to make sure the equipment here is ready for use and in good working order. We’ve invested in lots of new shiny equipment – and we’d like you to help keep it that way – because vets (as you already know) generally suck at this.

You will be responsible for managing stock. As a small practice, we don’t want to hoard unnecessarily, but we need to make sure that we are never stuck because we have run out of a medicine or vital tool.

You will need to follow our existing protocols and help us develop new ones. The protocols we have exist to make sure that things happen smoothly and on time, we keep our patients and staff safe and we give our patients the things they need when they need them.

You will need to be able to enter data and keep it up to date and accurate so we do not make mistakes or let our clients down.

When you deal with our clients in nurse clinics, you will need to make sure they have the information they need to keep their pets healthy and they know what the plan for their pet is. We like our clients to know how their pets are after a procedure, and you will be responsible for making sure that they get that information.

We are especially passionate about developing our people. So, you will get plenty of training so that you can improve your skills over the years.

Finally, it is essential that you love what you do and like to have fun doing it.

To be considered for this role you must:

  • Be an RVN or 2nd year student nurse.
  • Have a pointy horn growing from your forehead.
  • Have an extreme love of galloping hard under rainbows.

In return for being a great part of this team for 40 hours each week, we offer a great package including:

  • Base salary
  • Travel contribution
  • Medical health insurance
  • CPD budget (unlimited by agreement)
  • Perkbox membership
  • Discounted pet care package.
  • Package is worth at least £25,000.
  • Plus a profit share bonus!

If you’ve managed to read all this and you are still interested plus your hooves are not a dreadful impediment to typing, then email your CV and cover letter to Dr Dave Nicol at the Roundwood Vets Unicorn Recruitment Department.

We look forward to hearing from you very soon. :)

Company

We are an independently owned boutique practice in London who cares about people as much as we do animals. We are looking for people who share our values and want a career with a practice where life is a bit different. To give you an idea of what things we are looking for and also what to expect if you come to work with us, we're delighted to share our values statement with you. So here goes....It's important that we...

Get better - keep learning and improving.

Keep making our systems simpler. And keep helping those around you to achieve their goals. Don’t do it the hard way when there’s an easy way instead.

Have fun - work stops being a chore when you do what you love and master it. Life’s better when we smile not frown.

Act with integrity - real trust builds only when we do what feels right, we’re honest and we keep our word.

Take pride - you worked hard to get here and you made a difference to somebody’s life today.

Be nice - all people and creatures (even spiders) deserve our respect and our kindness, not our judgement. True happiness comes from helping others, so we give everyone a fair go.

If these statements connect with you then we'd love to hear from you.
