Greenside Vet Practice, St Boswells in the beautiful Scottish Borders, only 45min from Edinburgh, seek an enthusiastic colleague, preferably with experience, to join our expanding small animal team. This is a rare opportunity for an individual to join our friendly, supportive 10 vet practice with excellent staff retention.

We pride ourselves in providing a high standard of veterinary care to pets and their owners and have all the usual toys, including endoscopy and dental x-ray. The role is 40hrs per week; no weekend clinics. We provide our own OOH cover with a 1:10 on call rota for small animal only with time back in lieu. CPD funded and further qualifications encouraged and supported.

The Practice

Greenside Vet Practice is situated in St Boswells in the beautiful Scottish Borders; only 45min from Edinburgh and 60min from Newcastle by car. Tweedbank rail station is 15 min from the practice and offers a regular rail link to Edinburgh. We are a friendly, supportive practice with excellent staff retention. We are part of the Linnaeus Group which has offered us stability and excellent support throughout 2020 and has allowed us to expand our practice since joining in 2018.

Greenside Vet Practice is a mixed practice with an ever expanding companion animal component as well as the UK’s leading stem cell, regenerative medicine and rehabilitation clinic which accepts referral cases from all over the UK. A purpose built referral unit has recently been completed and includes a hydrotherapy treadmill and qualified veterinary physiotherapists in the team. The small animal component of the practice has an experienced team of 6 vets who share the caseload of consulting and surgery. We are well equipped with DR x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy and dental x-ray available as well as a full suite of laboratory equipment in-house. The small animal team is supported by 8 qualified RVN. Appointment times 15/20minutes per consult.

Scottish Borders. Pleasant rural location with the advantage that city life is easily within reach. Edinburgh is 45min and Newcastle 80min by car and there is a rail link to Edinburgh locally from Tweedbank with a half-hourly service. Low cost of living and fantastic selection of outdoor pursuits on your door step.

The Role
Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our team to allow for permanent expansion of consulting times to 15/20min per appointment. Role will involve consulting as well as surgery and time will be allocated for lab reporting and phone calls during the day. There will be a requirement to do evening surgeries and branch practice clinics once a week. On call rota is split evenly amongst 5 vets which amounts to one night per week and every fifth weekend. Phones are diverted to an answering service. A nurse is always on call to support the vets out of hours. In lieu of on call duties, the successful candidate will have a half day once a week and a Friday off the weekend after being on-call.

Successful Candidate
The successful candidate should be enthusiastic and friendly and have good communication skills. Be happy to work as part of a team and also be self-motivated and driven to provide the best service for our patients and clients alike.

The Package
RCVS, VDS, BVA and journal subscription of your choice funded. Annual CPD allowance of £1000 and 5 days funded; however if a candidate would like to study for a further qualification this would be supported by the practice.

Time back in lieu of on call with a half day every week and a Friday off after a weekend on call. 35 days holiday per annum.
