Job Details

We have a great opportunity available for an enthusiastic experienced vet to join us here at Cedar Veterinary Group. We are an established practice based in Hampshire with an excellent local reputation (with a main hospital in Ringwood and branch surgeries in Verwood and Ferndown).

We have all the facilities and equipment associated with a Veterinary Hospital and a very loyal, largely insured client base.

Cedar Vets is situated in the beautiful New Forest National Park with a wonderful coastline close by, and good links to London and Southampton.  Our location attracts people who love the outdoors, whether for walking, cycling, horse-riding or sailing and other water sports.  For those who enjoy a more sedentary lifestyle, we are spoilt for good pubs and restaurants, and even have the Ringwood brewery 2 minutes from the practice!

Our friendly team of 8 vets is supported by experienced nurses and receptionists, all of whom share our passion for the provision of high standards of veterinary care for our patients.  These high standards are facilitated by generous variable length consultation times and ample opportunity to work-up cases to the full.  We are also pleased to have achieved the ‘outstanding' RCVS award in client service at all 3 of our branches.

A flexible rota shared by the vet team allows us to proudly provide an emergency service for our own clients.  Nights on call are largely undemanding and are followed by a day off the next day.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years' experience, and we would support anyone wishing to study for a certificate. We would also welcome applications from vets who already have post graduate qualifications with an interest in teaching and mentoring their less experienced colleagues and developing the practice in their particular area of expertise.

You will receive an attractive salary and a range of benefits including:

  • Salary dependent on experience
  • 5 weeks holiday with the option to buy 2 weeks extra
  • Generous financial support for your CPD
  • Staff discount scheme
  • Access to a range of flexible benefits to suit your needs – such as subsidised gym membership, cycle to work scheme, discounted pet products and much more!

Does this sound like the practice for you?

If it does please click “Apply Now” including both your CV and covering letter in your application.

Company

Here at CedarVets we provide expert veterinary care in Ringwood and at our branches in Verwood and Ferndown covering west Hampshire and east Dorset. We are accredited to the highest level by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Located on the border of Hampshire and Dorset, the part of the practice that deals with pets and small animals works from three sites – our main Hospital in Ringwood and our two well-equipped surgeries in Verwood and Ferndown.

Our Ringwood Surgery is a registered Veterinary Hospital. This is a practice that is fully inspected regularly by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and meets the most exacting standards applied in the United Kingdom.

Veterinary Hospitals are the only practices where you can be certain that your pet will never be left alone, as there is a vet or nurse on the premises 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Veterinary Hospitals have to adhere to strict rules governing operating theatre sterility, continuing staff education/professional development, equipment, books, animal wards, intensive care, laboratory facilities and anaesthetic protocols.

We are proud to offer a genuine 24 hour service, 365 days a year with our own staff in our own premises. Irrespective of the time of day or night, you will be sure to see one of our own vets who will have access to your pet’s full clinical history. If your pet becomes sick and needs hospitalising, they will be cared for in a dedicated ward with all the most up to date equipment and standards of care. If necessary or appropriate, our nurses will medicate and monitor the patients at any time of the night. Your pet will not be transported between veterinary practices when they are feeling unwell.

Our facilities and equipment include the following:

  • Separate dog and cat wards
  • Dedicated isolation ward for infected patients
  • Two operating theatres, maintained at the highest levels of sterility
  • A separate ‘clean prep’ room for preparation of patients for theatre and dealing with non-sterile procedures
  • Dedicated dental facilities including a dental x-ray machine
  • In house laboratory (including biochemistry/haematology/electrolyte machines, as well as microscope)
  • Ultrasound machine for imaging of the internal organs
  • High powered x-ray machine with digital processor
  • Two endoscopes (for looking into the lungs or gastro-intestinal tract of patients)
  • Incubator with piped oxygen for treatment of intensive care patients
  • 6 fluid-pumps for accurate administration of intravenous fluids and drugs
  • Heat pads, air-heated blankets and drip fluid warmers for optimal temperature regulation in critically ill or anaesthetised patients
  • eCG machines
  • Blood pressure monitoring machines
  • Ocular Tonometer for measuring the pressure in the eyes (emergency glaucoma or trauma cases)
  • State of the art anaesthetic monitoring equipment, including pulse-oximeters and a multi-modal monitor with capnograph/eCG/temperature/oxygen measurements.
  • ISTAT blood machine for rapid vital measurements in emergencies
  • Diathermy and suction machines for complicated surgical procedures
  • Our biggest asset is our staff. Our receptionists, vets and nurses regularly partake in continuing education to ensure we remain up to date with the care we offer our patients.

If a member of staff is due to go off duty, there will be a full hand-over between staff to ensure continued high standards of care throughout the pet’s stay. Our wards are constantly manned by a ward nurse and all anaesthetised patients are monitored by nurses before, during and after anaesthesia.

We are also proud of our protocols to ensure we maximise the comfort and safety of the animals in our care. We do not cut corners to reduce our costs. Our vets change into scrub suits, gowns and sterile gloves for the most routine of surgical procedures. Our patients have intravenous catheters placed to allow rapid administration of drugs in emergency situations. Our surgical patients have appropriate pain relief before, during and after their operations.

Our hospitalised sick patients always have a nurse and veterinary surgeon dedicated to looking after them day and night. The vets formally check these patients a minimum of twice daily (morning and evening), but more regularly if necessary. We phone the owners of our inpatients at least twice daily.

In summary, we have a team of people who are passionate about delivering outstanding care to our patients. We strongly believe in delivering the best treatment possible, as we are confident that our clients want the same care for their pets as we would wish for our own.

Of course, we don’t only treat sick animals. We also provide a range of services such as healthy clubs to help you proactively manage your pet’s health. Click to read more about our Healthy Pet Club.
