We are keen and supportive towards our staff having a great work-life balance, and to this end we have reviewed not just what our staff do, but when and how they do it. As a result, we have reviewed how we plan to provide emergency and critical care to our patients in the future.

We are seeking an experienced RVN for 3 nights per week (preferably Sunday – Tuesday) to help make our plans a reality.

The Practice
Oakham Veterinary Hospital is a long established practice on the outskirts of Oakham, Rutland. Our premises are purpose built and set in 8.5 acres surrounded by rural countryside.

We have extensive hospital facilities and diagnostic equipment our small animal department. Our experienced and caring teams of vets, nurses and support staff offer a complete veterinary service from routine examinations, vaccinations, visits, etc. to specialist surgery with the very latest 'state of the art' equipment.

We are dedicated to deliver the very best of veterinary care and service and are proud to have a Tier 3 hospital status, accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. We also have a clinical association with the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science giving us access to the expertise from leading veterinary specialists.

The purpose built practice is located in the rural East Midlands with great communication networks to major cities.

The Role
The Night Nurse is required to stay on site during their shift.

Supporting the duty vet and graduate clinician, our night nurses provide full gold-standard nursing to the patients in their care. Keeping accurate records relating to clients, patients and the hospital is essential, as is maintaining the hospital in a clean and sanitary state. There may be occasions when the night nurse also acts as nursing mentor to Nottingham Vet School students.

Successful Candidate
Enthusiastic, self-motivated and resilient, you will enjoy keeping pace with our wide and varied caseload and demonstrate a passion for providing excellent nursing care.

You should possess a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience, gained in a busy practice.

A qualification in Emergency & Critical Care is desirable but not essential.

Yard visits are available for equine and farm veterinary needs and to enhance the service we offer to our Equine Clients north of Grantham we have a veterinary surgeon based in Lincolnshire. We offer our clients in the Northamptonshire area an equine service to their yards.

We are situated just off the Oakham bypass on Ashwell Road with easy access, and we have separate car and lorry parks.

Our 24 hour emergency service is covered by our own vets from our hospital premises.

In May 2010 we became clinical associates with the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science giving us access to the expertise from leading veterinary specialists and substantially increasing our already 'state of the art' equipment range.
