Job Details

We need someone to work 2-3 regular weekdays per week, usually Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, plus at least 3 Saturdays per month.

The Practice
We are a 2-site west London practice based in Earls Court and in Chiswick and one of the oldest practices in London.

We are a family owned practice of 2 full-time vets, and we use a part-timer to help us out. We have 3 fully qualified veterinary nurses, one very experienced nursing assistant and one receptionist.

The practice is very well equipped (digital x-rays, full Idexx lab suite, dental x-rays, endoscopy, ultrasound, air dental systems, 300ma X-ray generator) and we manage most of our surgical and medical cases in house.

The smaller Chiswick (Grove Park Veterinary Clinic) branch practice is set up as a consulting-only practice, with all the operations from this branch transferred to the main clinic, although the branch does have full facilities for anaesthesia and surgery in the event of an emergency, and minor ops are performed there at times. The bulk of the surgical procedures are performed at the Earls Court (Abingdon Veterinary Clinic) practice, where all the main equipment is centralised.

The Role
We need someone to work 2-3 regular weekdays per week, usually Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, plus at least 3 Saturdays per month.

The weekdays are at both the 2 clinics. The Saturdays might be divided between the main clinic and the branch clinic but would mainly be at the branch at Grove Park.

The main practice operates 0900-1830 Monday-Friday and 0900-1500 Saturdays.

The branch clinic's hours are 0930-1800 Monday-Friday and 0930-1200 on Saturdays.

Successful Candidate
The successful candidate will have excellent client manners and social skills and must be able to work their consulting periods sole charge; the candidate must have a driving licence as at least on one weekday they are required to transport the hospitalised animals from the branch to the main clinic in the practice ambulance. Whilst at the main clinic, cases and their management can be discussed, although phone contact with the main vet is always possible at any time.

The candidate is expected to perform all the surgical procedures on the weekdays, and generally without assistance. We therefore require someone able to stand on their own feet both surgically and in the consult room, and normally we would consider someone with at least 4 years of "proper" full-time experience.

The successful candidate will be self-employed on a per day rate (locum rate) dependent on experience and will be responsible for their own taxes.
The practice is able to offer additional days of work intermittently and also periods of full-time work i.e. a whole week or more during e.g. school/family holidays.
