Cutting Edge – your first step into Emergency and Critical Care

We are looking for Vet Surgeons, with at least six months post-qualification small animal experience, who relish the diverse caseload that ECC naturally brings. We have both full and part time opportunities across our network of 58 clinics and three hospitals in the UK – we’ll be led by you in regards to where you want to work.

ECC induction designed and delivered by experts

Designed by ECC diplomate Amanda Boag, Cutting Edge is a comprehensive induction that will equip you with the skills and confidence needed to work sole charge in an emergency environment. The ten week training combines lectures and interactive seminars with practical training and surgery. The next intake of Cutting Edge is 2nd March 2020. Topics include but not limited to;

  • Abdominal Surgery
  • Blood Smears
  • Emergency Diagnostics
  • Neurological Emergencies
  • Orthopaedic & Spinal Emergencies
  • Practical Ultrasound
  • Suturing Skills
  • Shock and Fluids
  • Toxicology
  • Wound Management

Develop your skills and confidence though enhanced training

The first three weeks of the programme are based in our support office in Scotland. The next four weeks will be spent in a clinic alongside an experienced emergency clinician. As expected with having the largest ECC caseload in Europe, you will experience situations far removed from day practice, ideal for leaning and development. The remaining three weeks are spent back in the support office.

Earn while you learn

We’ll cover your accommodation costs whilst you’re in the support office and you’ll be paid a basic salary while training – you’ll be a Vets Now employee from day one of the course. For the ten week programme, we’ll pay a basic salary of £40,000 per annum. From week 11, your salary will increase and will vary depending on the clinic you choose to work in.

Company

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from 55 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and three 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 100,000 small animals every year — and during seasonal holidays, like Christmas and Easter, our highly-skilled staff answer around five queries an hour from worried pet owners. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our three hospitals — in Glasgow, Manchester and Swindon — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
