We are looking for an enthusiastic vet to join the existing pig team in the delivery of herd health advice and health monitoring. Some pig experience is preferable but consideration will be given to new graduates or surgeons looking for a change in career. Good communication skills essential.


The practice:

Garth Pig Practice is a team of leading pig industry professionals providing veterinary and consulting services to clients throughout the UK and other parts of the world.

The role:

  1. To gain an understanding of pig medicine and to gain an understanding of the systems in place in the relevant practice with a view to delivering advice on health and production to pig farmers including integrated pig production businesses, breeding company and varied sized family farms via quarterly farm visits, email and telephone. Must have an interest in outdoor pig production and data monitoring.
  2. Expected to devote time for guided and self-study.
  3. Completing QA farm audits e.g. Red Tractor and any other relevant paperwork.
  4. Communicate promptly with colleagues and respond promptly to client requests.
  5. Manage paperwork efficiently and promptly (e.g. farm visit reports, booking of work for accounts).
  6. Must be willing to travel long distances with overnight stay where necessary.
  7. Signing of prescriptions and VWDs for in feed medication.
  8. Working as part of the team to share knowledge and communicate relevant information among all members of team, through attending pig meetings and informally in office. Working with team to refine and develop our services.
  9. Raising practice profile by attendance at farmer meetings (often evening).
  10. Keeping up to date on current knowledge.
  11. Assisting in delivering in house staff training and external farmer training.
  12. To be a keen and enthusiastic member of our team and the wider Vet Partners group.
  13. To be able to work unsupervised after completing period of training.
