An exciting opportunity for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon has become available in a beautiful small market town in north Durham.

The practice is well equipped, recently expanded, set in a purpose converted comfortable building a stones’ throw from town shops. Quiet ward and waiting room. Dedicated euthanasia room. Digital x-ray, endoscopy, ultrasound scanning, sevofluorane anaesthesia, physiotherapy laser, in house haematology and biochemistry, external fixation, computerised practice management system and all other usual toys. Comfortable staff room. Lab courier collections mean results next day from the external labs.
Full time, permanent position for a veterinary surgeon in a mixed but mainly (95%) small animal practice.
Back up from experienced vets is available and generously given.
No sole charge.
Hours, Mon-Fri – 8:30 – 18:00 (1x Vet til 18:30 to see any late arrivals)
Hours, Sat – 8:30-12:00 (on a rota for two vets, one vet leaves at 10:30)
Relaxed daily work allocation system allows flexibility and choice most days.
Usually a 4 day working week, with Fridays/Mondays off tied together to give a long weekend off approximately every 4-6 weeks
One night per week on in patients most weeks, 1:4 weekends, one Friday night care/ Saturday surgery only per month.
Vets able to follow their own cases, and professional development such as operating skills encouraged and supported within the practice.
Varied, interesting caseloads with a vet interested in exotics and acupuncture. Very few surgical cases referred, but good local referrals for both small and large animals if needed.

New graduates not allocated on in patient care until at least 6-8 weeks in the practice, depending on proficiency and confidence.
Annual pay reviews have exceeded inflation for the last 9 years, and include an experience weighting for the first five years qualified.
