Exciting New Opportunity in Veterinary Technology

The University of Adelaide’s School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences has achieved outstanding levels of excellence in 11 years of operation. The School’s veterinary program leapt into the Global Top 50 in the 2019 QS academic discipline rankings and received an ERA evaluation rating at level 5 (well above international standard) in the 2019 Excellence for Research in Australia evaluation round. The School provides exceptional outcome-based education and training of animal and veterinary scientists in a strong research environment, consisting of world leading multi-disciplinary teams that provide opportunities for cross disciplinary research, education and innovation in animal health and welfare.

The School of Animal & Veterinary Sciences is offering a new undergraduate program in Veterinary Technology with the first intake of students in 2020. The School is seeking an enthusiastic Academic in a continuing capacity to assist in the development and delivery of the Veterinary Technology degree. This position will work collaboratively with other members of the school to create and coordinate the program and develop research in the field.

In the first instance you will be heavily involved in developing the program and forging industry links, followed by a focus on the development of research in later years. The School has a world leading multi-disciplinary team of teachers, researchers and clinicians who will provide opportunities for collaborative research both locally and internationally. As the successful candidate, you will have a demonstrated ability to attract research and to develop a high-quality research program in the future. You will be an enthusiastic, innovative and team-orientated person with a passion for delivering the highest standards of research and teaching, with a high standard of communication and interpersonal skills.

To be successful you will need

Level B:

  • A degree in Veterinary Nursing, Veterinary Technology or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the delivery of an undergraduate program in Veterinary Technology.
  • A strong familiarity through personal experience with the practice of veterinary technology, veterinary nursing or veterinary science including at least three years of clinical or practical experience in a relevant field.
  • A demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in the veterinary and allied professions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of teaching and research teams.

In addition to the above, to be considered for Level C, you will need:

  • A degree in Veterinary Nursing, Veterinary Technology or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated evidence of high-quality teaching and of experience in curriculum development at a University-level program in Veterinary Nursing, Veterinary Technology or similar qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development and delivery of an undergraduate program in Veterinary Technology.
  • A strong familiarity through personal experience with the practice of veterinary technology, veterinary nursing or veterinary science including at least three years of clinical or practical experience in a relevant field.
  • A track record of productive research and the ability to develop further high-quality research in a field relevant to the position.
