Overview of Role:

ZSL is looking for a Wildlife Health Services Administrator to facilitate, through the daily co-ordination of the clinical, pathological and animal care teams, the smooth running of the Wildlife Health Services department and its research, education and conservation activities.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Wildlife Health Services (ADWHS), the Administrator will provide liaison and support for all professionals, students and others visiting or working in Wildlife Health Services. They will facilitate all animal welfare processes through administrative support to the Animal Welfare Officer (AWO), and by assisting the ADWHS in Animal Welfare Group (AWG) and Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) activities. The Administrator will liaise closely with the Senior Veterinary Officer (SVO) and Senior Veterinary Nurse (SVN) at London Zoo to help drive our strategic aims.

Main duties of the role will include:

  • Manage the Assistant Director of Wildlife Health Services’ diary.
  • Organise rotas to provide continuous clinical cover at both zoos.
  • Handle a wide variety of communications to the department and produce internal documents and reports.
  • Organise meetings, drawing up and issuing papers, and providing minutes as appropriate.
  • Co-ordinate legislative requirements within the department.
  • Support all students and visiting researchers.
  • Co-ordinate all recruitment requirements.
  • Assist with travel and CPD arrangements for department members.
  • Maintain up to date webpages for the department.
  • Monitor all works and ICT requests across the department.
  • Support the department in the purchase of various equipment, drugs and disposables.
  • Provide cross-directorate support to/deputise for other Zoological administrators in their absence.
  • Database management.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience undertaking administrative duties.
  • A proven track record of working effectively within a team.
  • Good IT literacy.
  • Ability to work independently and intensively, managing a busy work schedule.
  • Communication skills that allow comprehensive but concise information sharing.
  • Ability to remain flexible according to changing situations.
  • Ability to travel independently between both sites.

Please note: This is a full-time, permanent position that will be based at ZSL’s offices in Regents Park and may involve some travel to Whipsnade Zoo, Dunstable.
