Job Details

Pride Veterinary Centre beautifully combines the benefits of a specialist led, multidisciplinary support infrastructure with the flexibility of being independently owned by members of the veterinary team.

We strive to deliver world class patient care and our fantastic facilities provide a superb care environment, including 13 consultation rooms, 7 hospital wards, 5 theatres, full advanced imaging suite, 3 ultrasound rooms, an endoscopy suite, hydrotherapy pool and treadmills and dedicated chemo and radio-iodine treatment rooms define the setting.

The ophthalmology team is a dedicated team that comprises a nurse, an intern and two specialist ophthalmologists who see a large range of medical and surgical cases.  The team is dedicated to outstanding patient care and all are happy to teach and help others.

While based within the ophthalmology team you will be working closely with the theatre and in-patient care teams in our busy referral hospital as well as the wider team at the practice. There are numerous opportunities to work alongside a team of dedicated veterinary professionals.

The role of ophthalmology nurse requires an individual who is organised and able to work and communicate effectively with a range of people as well as being clinically focused. We’re not seeking an ophthalmology expert at this point, we are seeking an enthusiastic veterinary nurse who wants to build their knowledge and influence the standards of care to being the very highest possible.

The successful candidate will organise the ophthalmology department and team members throughout the day and liaise with other areas as required (theatre, wards, imaging).  This role of ophthalmology nurse has a level of autonomy and influence to it that is higher than most other roles.  Your ideas and working practices can be implemented, established and put into daily use, so if at times you like to work independently, that would be an asset.

Client care is a large part of the role, from providing updates, to admissions to giving advice. We aim to offer outstanding care to both our patients and their owners and great communication is essential for this and highly valued by the owners.

There will be opportunities to assist the ophthalmologists with surgical and non-surgical procedures, and time to provide one to one care to our very important and loveable patients.  Additionally, if you would like to split your role and work within our wards as an added interest, that is certainly an option.

  3. Great opportunity to develop skills in an interesting discipline
  4. Your chance to make a key difference in a focused team within a large referral hospital

  2. Increasing holiday with years’ service
  3. Death in service insurance at 4 x salary
