We are a three branch, small animal practice based in East Lindsey, Lincolnshire, situated on the coast between the Fens and the Wolds - hence the name “Fenwold”. Two of our branches are based in the busy coastal towns of Skegness and Mablethorpe with the third  branch being based more inland in the market town of Spilsby. All branches are within a pleasant 20–40min countryside drive of each other.

We are looking for an assistant veterinary surgeon to work primarily from our Spilsby branch, however, when covering for other vets on holiday, or on Saturdays, you may be required to visit other branches. We are willing to offer between £30K and £60K commensurate with experience. Provision of a car or payment for mileage is negotiable.

A contract of employment will be offered within the first month and regular appraisals are run with the directors to discuss strengths, weaknesses and objectives and help you develop in your career.

We are a welcoming, supportive and progressive independent practice, a member of XL Vets, and hold a Tier 2 RCVS Accreditation. Opening hours are every weekday from 8:30am to 6:30pm (10 minute consultations running in 1.5 – 2 hour blocks are by appointment only), with a shorter opening time on a Saturday, 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Our branches have facilities for Digital X-Rays, Ultrasound, In-house blood testing, dental trolleys and ECG. We have flexible and rigid endoscopy which is shared between the branches, and most importantly we have friendly and experienced staff!

Typically, 2 vets work at each branch where each has an opportunity to consult and operate every day, (except for Saturdays where only 1 vet works at the branch and there are no routine operations). Consulting rooms are spacious and air-conditioned.

We offer an alternate 4 or 4.5 day week and 28 days holiday.

The on call rota is a one in five with no evening surgery when you are on-call.  We have recently audited our Out of Hours calls. We average just a single call per night which includes weekends so we are not busy when on-call.

The out-of-hours telephone service is manned by our own staff, with the phones taken by experienced telephonists, shielding you from non-urgent calls. Nursing assistants are available 24/7 and the directors are on a rota to be available to new graduates as ‘back-up’ when on call.

Our three directors have certificates in Small Animal Surgery, Small Animal Medicine and Veterinary Dermatology. They are experienced vets and will be able to mentor you if needed when improving your surgery/consulting abilities.

We offer CPD funded by the practice and would also assist you in studying for a certificate, should you be interested, once your position has been established.

Please view both our Facebook page and website to help gain a ‘feel’ for our Practice.

The area has excellent recreational facilities for most hobbies and interests such as walking, cycling, surfing, football, rugby, hockey, badminton, horse riding and much more with many towns having clubs for these sports giving a perfect opportunity to meet new people outside of work.

The Lincolnshire Wolds are an area of outstanding natural beauty with numerous local footpaths to walk through the countryside and along the coast with great beaches – For wildlife enthusiasts there are many important wildlife reserves providing refuge for migrating birds on the coast including Gibralter Point and Frampton Marsh.

There are many traditional countryside pubs offering local ales and traditional food plus other great pubs and restaurants in the towns.

We are only a short distance from the beautiful city of Lincoln with good rail connections to other cities.

The cost of living is low, housing is affordable and there are many good local schools.

We look forward to working with you!
