Anaesthesia Intern

Reporting to: Head of Anaesthesia
Term: 1-year fixed term
Hours: Full time, plus participation in the ‘out of hours’ rota (one in four rota)
Internship start date: September – November 2019

We have three Specialist Anaesthetists and two who have completed an ECVAA residency. This is a busy, multi-disciplinary, referral-only small animal hospital in Hampshire, UK. We have a varied caseload of unusual and challenging cases and a close-knit, enthusiastic team. We continue to expand our clinical services and believe in a team approach to challenging cases.

We accept referrals in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesiology and physiotherapy. Our Specialist Clinicians are supported by a team of highly qualified registered veterinary nurses, nursing assistants and interns. We have two nurses with VTS Anaesthesia qualifications and many of our nurses have advanced qualifications.   

The Anaesthesia Intern will work under the supervision of the Anaesthetists and will be involved in the pre-anaesthetic assessments, anaesthesia induction and recovery, management of critical or high-risk anaesthesia, sedation for non-invasive procedures, loco-regional anaesthetic techniques, long and short-term analgesia management and assisting clinicians with critical cases in wards where necessary. We also run a pain clinic and the Intern will have the opportunity to join the Anaesthetist in some of these consults. 

This internship will be ideally suited for someone with previous general practice experience and also some experience in anaesthesia, with an interest in pursuing a Residency in Anaesthesia and Analgesia.

Anderson Moores is located in a rural setting but close to national and international transport links (Heathrow, Southampton and Bournemouth airports, direct train links to London and the Midlands) and easy access to the south coast for recreational activities.

Candidates must be:

• MRCVS or hold a veterinary degree registrable with the RCVS
• Eligible to work in the United Kingdom. 

Please note that due to the location of our practice and the ‘on call’ responsibilities, having your own transport would be an advantage.
