Job Details

The practice:
We have been open since 2009 in our purpose built practice to the highest hospital standards. In addition to the first opinion work, we offer referrals in Ophthalmology, Endoscopy, Surgery, Orthopaedics, CT scanning, Cardiology, Dentistry and Physiotherapy.south devon

The practice is exceptionally equipped e.g. on-site CT scanner, digital X-ray, digital dental X-ray, range of flexible videoscopes/ fibre bronchoscope, rigid endoscopes, laparoscopy/thoracoscopy equipment, multiple capnographs/multiparameter monitors, ultrasound with range of probes, full range of surgical equipment, specialist ophthalmology equipment (slit lamps, tonometers, operating microscope etc).

We are located in Abbotskerswell, a lovely village in the heart of South Devon between the sea and Dartmoor. It’s a great location for outdoor activities, but also with really easy access to the larger centres of Exeter, Torbay and Plymouth.

The role:
Are you a progressive first opinion small animal vet looking for part-time work (hours negotiable), keen to work in an environment where you have the facilities and support to work up cases to the highest level?

Are you developing an interest in an area of practice and keen to progress further? Or perhaps you already have further experience and qualifications and are looking for a job where you can further expand on this? We need a vet or vets to join our friendly, enthusiastic team in our exceptionally equipped RCVS Hospital first- opinion/referral practice.

We work to the highest possible standards and give great care to patients (not just get them in and out of the door). Our consultations are 15 minutes. You will join a team of experienced, supportive colleagues (all certificate holders/diplomats).

We aim to ensure a good work-life balance. Daily hours in a “typical” week are either 08:30-17:00 or 10:00-18:30 or 19:00. Out-of-hours calls are outsourced. There is a 1:3 Saturday morning rota. Part-time hours are to be discussed at interview.

There is a great supportive team environment in the practice, with high levels of staff retention long-term. We’d love to hear why you’d like to join us!

Successful candidate:
We are looking for a vet with experience and drive, keen to get involved in practice development as well as provide great patient and client care. There is very strong support for staff development and time and funding for CPD is exceptional – to certificate level and beyond.

We would also welcome applications from candidates who already have a certificate, or other qualifications, and would like to expand their clinical interests further in our exceptional facilities. Our ideal candidate will be confident using computers and also have an interest in how we effectively manage the practice and communicate to current and potential clients. An interest in clinical governance would also be great – we expect all staff to contribute to this.

The practice:
Our rota, staff benefits package and salary are benchmarked against other jobs and we genuinely believe it can’t be beaten!

Benefits include: a generous salary (where experience and further qualifications are further rewarded); a buy-leave scheme; extra leave for long service; a shift pattern designed to promote a great work-life balance– we’re happy to chat you through the details!

We offer a very generous CPD allowance both in terms of time and funding – this is tailored according to individual staff goals but can include time and funding for certificate or other further study.

We have a staff pension scheme in place and other schemes such as childcare vouchers where appropriate.
