Job Details

We are currently looking for a colleague to join our large, diverse and well-established histopathology team based at our site in Norfolk. This residency position is designed to provide training principally within diagnostic histopathology in the commercial world, and will be run in collaboration with the Royal Veterinary College, London.

This programme will help prepare you to sit and complete the FRCPath examinations in veterinary anatomic pathology, whilst gaining practical experience within our diagnostic laboratory. The laboratory has several staff who have successfully completed the FRCPath examinations whilst in-post.

You will be a qualified veterinary surgeon and eligible for MRCVS registration, and ideally you will have some previous experience within clinical practice. You will work alongside 16 on-site and remote pathologists, who will supervise and assist in your training and development. We handle a wide range of sample types from both the UK and further afield within our laboratory. We deal predominantly with companion animals but also have a significant exotic case workload and a developing equine and farm animal diagnostic capability, therefore you will be exposed to a wide range of material and will be able to develop your own areas of interest.

There will also be opportunities to receive training in other areas such as immunohistochemistry, digital pathology and cytology. Further experience of performing post mortem examinations, reporting of biopsy samples and some teaching of undergraduate veterinary students will be gained by spending regular periods at the RVC, as part of their residency programme.

Development of links with other laboratories, universities and referral practices is encouraged at Finn Pathologists, and we are currently collaborating on a number of research projects. As a resident, you will be expected to undertake a suitable research project and encouraged to produce publications, case reports, posters and oral presentations. Attendance at regional, national and international pathology meetings is also encouraged, and time will be provided for self-directed learning.
