Job Details

Vets Now is the European leader in the provision of Emergency and Critical Care. As well as European Board of Veterinary Specialisation Residency programs in Emergency & Critical Care and Surgery, we also offer a well-established rotating Internship program in our referral hospitals in Glasgow and Manchester.

Our Interns have the opportunity to work in dedicated referral hospitals, under the close supervision of outstanding veterinary specialists across our network in Emergency and Critical Care, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging and Oncology.

We are delighted, therefore, to be inviting applications for our Rotating Internship and Discipline Specific Internship Programmes, beginning in July 2019.  We are recruiting for 13 interns in total:

6x Small Animal Rotating

1x Small Animal Surgical (discipline specific)

1x Small Animal Internal Medicine (discipline specific)

Manchester

5x Small Animal Rotating

Rotating Internships

The Vets Now small animal internships are designed for qualified veterinary surgeons, particularly new or recent graduates; the programme serves as an excellent foundation for those wishing to pursue specific discipline specialist training in the future, or those keen to experience and gain competency in in emergency medicine and surgery.

This post is for a 13 month period.

We also offer an opportunity to remain employed with us once the intern programme has been completed by taking up a role in one of our 57 out-of-hours clinics across the UK for a period of 6-12 months for interested candidates.

Interns rotate on 4 or 5 weekly blocks through each service, with time available to perform externships. Interns play an integral role in the busy out-of-hours emergency service across our sites, where they have primary care responsibility.

Interns will experience a diverse caseload and have both direct and indirect case management including opportunities for emergency and general practice surgery. Teaching is an essential component of the internship, with weekly didactic seminars and lectures, which will augment the clinical experience.  There is also the opportunity for extensive in-house CPD.

Discipline Specific Internships

The Vets Now discipline specific programmes are designed for highly motivated Veterinary graduates who wish to expand their skills, knowledge and experience in their chosen area. Successful candidates will also have increased exposure to discipline specific teaching and research opportunities.

These positions are highly suitable as a foundation for those wishing to pursue specific specialist training in the future, or those keen to increase their knowledge and experience for return to general practice.

One position is available in Internal Medicine/Oncology and a second position in General Surgery. Both of these positions will spend the majority of their clinical time with the respective referral teams, although some time with other related disciplines and participating in the out-of-hours service will be included, in order to facilitate a balanced clinical experience. The ability to collaborate with existing research projects will be encouraged, and successful candidates should expect subject-focused tutorials, as well as access to the in-house teaching provided to the Rotating Internships.

This post is for a 12 month period.

Candidate Requirements

At the time of starting the Internship, applicants must possess a Veterinary Degree which is recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the UK.

In addition, to be eligible for the Discipline Specific roles in Internal Medicine or Surgery, applicants must have completed a 12 month Small Animal Rotating Internship by the commencement of the post.

Applicants must also be eligible to work in the UK and have the appropriate Visa documents. It would also be desirable that applicants provide evidence of competency in speaking English, as determined by a formal qualification in English (such as IELTS or TOEFL).
