Job Details
RCVS Statutory Membership Examination
Recruitment of Examiners – up to 15 roles available
Applications are invited for examiners for the RCVS Statutory Membership Examination, representing the following areas:
- Equine
- Companion Animal
- Production Animal
- Veterinary Public Health
The purpose of the examiner role is to observe and assess the performance of candidates taking the practical component (Objective Structured Clinical Examination – OSCE) of the Statutory Membership Examination. However, there will be the opportunity for some examiners to contribute more widely to the RCVS examination, through membership of the Statutory Examination Board, reviewing MCQ questions for the written papers and standard setting.
Requirements
Examiners will be appropriately experienced in their area of practice, and have been registered and in good standing with the RCVS for a minimum of 5 years. Examiners should be familiar with the standard expected upon graduation in UK veterinary schools, and able to demonstrate the consistent application of performance judgements against pre-determined assessment criteria across multiple candidates. Examiners should have an understanding of the importance and mechanism of avoiding unconscious bias (training will also be provided), and possess good communications skills and team-working.
Time Commitment
The estimated time commitment for examiners is described below. However, this is dependent on the number of candidates and therefore a degree of flexibility may be required.
Examiners will be required to attend a 1 day training course in advance of being an examiner, and annually thereafter.
The OSCE will take place on the week commencing 15th July at Glasgow Vet School, across 1-2 days.
If the examiner is also a member of the Statutory Exam Board, this will meet 2-3 times a year.
