Job Details

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced animal behaviourist to join Cats Protection’s behaviour team. Reporting to the Head of Clinical Services, this post is based at the National Cat Centre at the edge of the Ashdown Forest in Sussex.

An understanding of behaviour and behaviour principles is essential for our work. In this role, you will continue to refine, develop and implement CP’s behaviour strategy. You will develop and promote policies and protocols to ensure consistent high standards of behavioural understanding and care of cats, help develop training programmes and provide advice and support on specific feline behaviour cases.

As the Behaviour Manager, you will have responsibility for the Behaviour Officer who will support you in your work. Working within the Veterinary Department and liaising with external academics and behaviourists, you will work alongside other departments, representing and promoting CP’s behaviour strategy nationally, raising awareness of feline behavioural issues.

Educated to degree level or a qualified veterinary nurse with relevant post-graduate qualification in animal behaviour, you will have the personality and knowledge to enthuse and engage with volunteers, staff and professional colleagues.

The successful candidate will be pro-active, self-motivated with excellent communication skills, have a special interest in cat welfare, ideally with an understanding of shelter medicine principles and be able to work at a senior level within the charity.

Company

From humble beginnings in 1927, Cats Protection has grown to become the UK's leading feline welfare charity. We now help around 200,000 cats and kittens every year through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches, 29 adoption centres and two homing centres. Our work doesn’t stop there, however: we also provide an array of cat care information via our publications, website and Helpline; promote the benefits of neutering to prevent unwanted litters from being born and becoming the abandoned cats of tomorrow and seek to educate people of all ages about cats and their care.

At Cats Protection, we help around 200,000 cats and kittens every year thanks in no small part to our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches, 29 adoption centres and two homing centres. These include the charity’s flagship adoption centre in Chelwood Gate, Sussex where our administrative offices can also be found.  Cats Protection is governed by a Board of Trustees which, in turn, is advised on its decisions by an Advisory Council of appointed representatives of the charity’s membership.
