Surgical Nurse (full or part-time) - South Devon

Exciting new openings have been introduced at South Devon Vet Hospital.

We have a fully equipped, purpose-built facility with new CT scanner, ultrasound and endoscopy suite along with other referral specialities on site to include cardiology and dentistry.

The Practice
South Devon Veterinary Hospital is a fully equipped, purpose-built hospital facility with new CT, ultrasound and endoscopy suite. We have a very interesting selection of referral modalities which nurses will participate in all areas of. We strive to maintain high standards of care and nurture any interests but the nurses have and encompass it where we can in the practice. We pride ourselves on offering excellent support for all new staff and students.

The practice consists of three permanent first opinion vets, three permanent ophthalmologists with visiting referral cardiology and dental teams plus a visiting physiotherapist. Whilst we are looking to expand the nursing team we currently have five RVNs, two nursing students and one ANA.

We are located in Abbotskerswell, a lovely village in the heart of South Devon between the sea and Dartmoor. It’s a great location for outdoor activities, but also with really easy access to the larger centres of Exeter, Torbay and Plymouth.

The Roles
SURGICAL NURSE. Full or Part-time
An exciting new opening has been introduced at South Devon Vet Hospital.

We are looking for a qualified RVN with a surgical interest to expand our experienced team in South Devon. The new position is primarily a theatre role with the use of advanced anaesthesia techniques including neuromuscular blockade and ventilators (full training will be provided).

There is a mixture of referral services for Ophthalmology, Laparoscopy, Endoscopy, Soft Tissue surgery and Orthopaedics with additional first opinion small animal surgery.  We have a fully equipped purpose built facility with new CT scanner, ultrasound and Endoscopy suite along with other referral specialities on site to include Cardiology and dentistry.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard working nurse with a keen interest in focussing on theatre work to join us in our strive for high standards and compassionate care. We believe strongly in bringing out the best in our nurses, and encourage self belief and confidence in order to provide an excellent standard of care for our patients.

We promote and encourage CPD (including allowance). We try to nurture any interests that our nurses have and encompass it where we can in practice. We are currently sponsor two nurses working towards their advanced nursing diplomas.

This position offers a good opportunity for learning and growth with full support from experienced Qualified RVN's and referral specialists.

Student VN position
We are looking for an RVN or final year student to expand our small but fabulous team in South Devon. The nursing workload is predominantly referral ophthalmology based but also involves a mixture of first opinion small animal practice and other referral services for laparoscopy, endoscopy, surgery, dentistry, CT imaging and cardiology.  We are happy to support applicants with an interest in or keen to learn about advanced anaesthesia techniques and welcome you to  join us in our strive for high standards and compassionate care. We believe strongly in bringing out the best in our nurses, and encourage self belief and confidence in order to provide an excellent standard of care for our patients.

Nurses work on a shift basis each shift with a different role to include kennels, prep, dirty ops and theatres and then lab and clinics are allocated each day to ensure everyone gets variety of roles and skills used.
This position offers a good opportunity for learning and growth with full support from experienced Qualified RVN's and referral specialists.

Successful Candidate
A good candidate consists of eagerness to potentially step outside of their comfort zone and learn exciting new skills with lots of support from experienced staff. We have a small but perfectly formed amazing team of nurses, so the right candidate will need to be willing to work with this team to achieve the goals of the practice.

Whilst we aim to ensure the role is varied, there is no doubt that advanced theatre and anaesthesia techniques will play a large role if you are interested in this aspect we would love to hear from you.

The package
We actively encourage CPD (including significant allowance), and try to nurture any interests that our nurses have and encompass it where we can in the practice. We are currently sponsoring two nurses working towards their advanced nursing diplomas and feel this is of significant benefit to the nurse and the practice. Other extended CPD packages will be considered on a case-by-case basis e.g. European or U.S.-based anaesthesia technicians qualification.

Location
South Devon in Newton Abbot, 12 miles from Exeter and 35 miles from Plymouth.

Salary package including extensive CPD allowance and pension contributions is commensurate with clinical experience and will change with time and practice.
