Job Details

Our Markeaton practice is set in the tranquil Allestree area of Derby and is a purpose-built amenity offering the very best in equine and farm veterinary services. We have experienced and dedicated teams and access to excellent facilities. These facilities include sixteen stables with boxes for critical care patients and foaling boxes and an operating theatre. We are a Clinical Associate Practice of the University of Nottingham.

Our dedicated Equine team are able to work in some of the most wonderful scenery across Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Nottinghamshire. We are based just outside the city centre of Derby, and work closely with the Farm team, supported by a dedicated Practice Manager, professional client care team, with office and dispensary support.

The team members at Markeaton are passionate and focussed about their work and animals. They are all totally supportive of each other and ready to share their opinions in an open and honest style. Our Markeaton team clearly enjoy their careers as the many are long standing colleagues with who have been in long term employment with Scarsdale Vets.

The role is primarily based at our purpose-built Equine Clinic with a range of equipment such as digital ultrasound, radiography and endoscopy to compliment the operating facilities in situ. There may be some occasions where you would need to accompany a vet to a client site to assist with various procedures.

Managing a team of six Equine Nurses, the role of Head Equine Nurse will oversee the team to ensure the smooth running of the hospital list, including being involved in team development, individual coaching and conducting appraisals. As well as ensuring exceptional clinical and client care is delivered by the team the successful candidate will also ensure the maintenance of clinical areas and equipment to a high standard.

A good fit for this team is a Head Equine Nurse who is organised and dedicated with an excellent attention to detail and who has a natural tendency for having a positive outlook and where appropriate, a good sense of humour.

We always aim to provide an outstanding level of client care and deal with a very varied equine caseload as we see all types of horses from Shires to Shetlands. Cases include Lameness work-ups, respiratory scopes, ultrasound scans, x-rays, joint taps, laser surgery and foal care.

Assisting the vets both in practice and on external visits this is a true hands-on position. The team have a breadth of knowledge to divulge and there is a generous CPD allowance for ongoing clinical and non-clinical personal development.
