Job Details

Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to work sub 40 hour week no OOH work. Very well equipped practices with RVNs to assist and help.

The Practice
The practice originally began life over 40 years ago in Melton Mowbray. Craig Johnston bought the practice from Mr & Mrs Moravec in 1995 and it has slowly grown over that time. We opened the Grantham practice about 16 years ago and moved into larger premises about 6 years ago. The practice has always been forward thinking and both sites are independent of each other both being able to provide the highest standards of small animal veterinary care. We are constantly upgrading our systems and equipment so that we have access to the best diagnostics in the area. We are supported by experienced qualified veterinary nurses who look after us at all times and run their own clinics for the patients alongside the veterinary surgeons.

Grantham and Melton Mowbray are within easy access of Nottingham, Leicester, Birmingham by road and Central London from Grantham is just 1 hour away.

The Role
We are able to offer the right candidate a sub 40 hour week with no OOH as we use Vets Now. We would like to share the consulting and operating equally throughout the practice, but if you have a preference or a passion then we would like you to develop these skills further. We have a wide client base with a wide variety of species and sizes of small animals. We often have time to give to our patients and owners, so our appointments can be 10-30mins depending on what needs to be done at the time. Our nurses are fantastic and very keen to use their RVN to the maximum so we often use them for blood sampling, IVs, radiography, as well as them being able to run a variety of nurses clinics etc etc. Each practice is equipped with their own haematology and biochemistry analysers, microscopy, Agfa digital xray systems, ultrasound units to include colour flow and 3D, ECG, blood pressure units, dental units with dental xray. We also share the use of colour video endoscopy, cryosurgery and electrosurgery, and a tonopen. So if you would like access to all of the above or would love to learn how to use them please apply.

Successful Candidate
We are looking for a small animal veterinary surgeon with a passion for the job. They must have excellent customer care skills so that they can do the best for their patients and their owners. We are looking for someone who has a desire to keep up to date and learn new skills. Someone who always tries their best and their hardest every day. We want you to be part of our team. We want our customers to know you, ask for you, so that you can develop and grow your own customer list.

The Package
In return we want to offer you the best work life balance we can. We don't want you tired and exhausted because of work. We will offer you a sub 40 hour working week over a 4.5 day week. We will not ask you to work OOH shifts as we use Vets Now. We only want you to work 1:4 Saturdays and will give you time off in lieu. We want you to learn so will give you £1500 CPD allowance and days off in the year to go and learn and come back enthused and stimulated.

Depending on your level of experience the salary would be £30,000 to £45,000. There is a pension scheme, and staff discount scheme and we look after the VDS for you too.

We want to to go on adventures and to come back and tell us all about them so we offer you 5 weeks holiday and we don't ask you to work bank holidays.

Company

The practice was started in the 1970’s by Mr & Mrs Moravec. It originally looked after all types of animals but later became more specialised, treating only small animals.

In 1995 the practice was sold and became Bray House Veterinary Practice. It became the only 100% small animal practice in the area. Over time, the practice has developed and grown.

As the customer list has increased we have been able to employ more vets. We make sure that we employ vets who have a similar interest in the care and welfare of small animals.

In 2003 the practice opened a new venture in Grantham. The nurses and vets were so confident of their care and compassion we entered the Grantham Journal Business Awards for Customer Care. In 2004 we won this award beating ASDA into second place.

All our vets undergo constant continuing education programmes and both practices are involved in veterinary nurse training. The practices are members of the RCVSBVA and BSAVA.

The practice also provides help with various companies with regard to the export of finished food products. In the past we have provided extensive help to Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition, Masterfoods, Mars, Telfer Foods, Marks & Spencers, and Arla Foods.

In 2019, our Melton practice were finalists for the Melton Times Customer Focus Award.
