Job Details

Assistant Equine Vet required.

If you would like to join a friendly and supportive team who are keen to keep vets in practice through a comfortable work life balance please apply.

We are a 6 vet ambulatory practice in Yorkshire with on site day patient facilities(stables, stocks, trot up and lunge facilities etc)

Most of our clients are pleasure horse owners determined to do the best for their pets, whilst we also have a few studs, hunting yards and professional outfits.

We have all the necessary equipment such as DR x ray, multiple ultrasounds, endoscopes, gastroscope, oroscope, electrical dental gear, shockwave etc.

We fully encourage further development including certificates.

To create a good work life balance we work a 4 day week and share a 1 in 6 rota and have plenty of banter in the office.

Car provided.

We welcome all applicants as we could accommodate an experienced vet whilst we feel we could support and develop a new graduate or recently qualified vet also.

Company

We are an equine only practice based at Moorhouse Equestrian Centre, just off the Wakefield (A638) Rd on the outskirts of Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

The Equine Veterinary Practice was founded in 1999, by Mr Richard Coppack, who had been in mixed practice in the area for the previous 15 years, whose specialist interest had always lain with horses.

Our patients range from high level competition horses through to the much loved family pony and all receive the same care and attention on which we pride ourselves.

Our vets and support staff are horse riders and owners themselves and clients can rest assured that they will be seeing a dedicated horse vet no matter what the time of day or night.

We offer a full range of routine equine veterinary services such as vaccinations, dentistry, sedations, lameness investigations, breeding work including fresh and frozen AI and pre-purchase examinations. We are fully equipped with portable digital x-rays, ultrasound scanners and endoscopy and clinic based gastroscopy equipment.

We perform routine surgeries including castrations and lump removals both at the centre and at clients own properties if the facilities are adequate. All our equipment may be used at your premises as well as at the clinic (except the gastroscope), as long as a suitable power supply is available. It is sometimes easier to carry out more difficult procedures at the clinic where we have better facilities such as stocks to aid restraint.

Horses often need some sedation for all of these procedures to keep them still enough to get good results, minimise stress to the horse, and prevent damage to the equipment.

If major surgical procedures, such as colic surgery or arthroscopy, or advanced diagnostic imaging such as scintigraphy (bone scanning), CT or MRI are required we are able to send your case to one of the specialist referral equine hospital facilities that we work closely with, such as Rainbow Equine Hospital at Old Malton, Hird & Partners at Halifax or Leahurst – The University of Liverpool’s Large Animal Hospital.

We also have a consultant medicine specialist, Rachael Conwell BVetMed CertEM(IntMed) DECEIM MRCVS European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine.

Rachel will perform gastroscopy, abdominal scanning and biopsies as requires at our facility at Moorhouse for the more complicated medical cases.

The Equine Veterinary Centre is a trading name of CVS(UK) Limited; a company which owns over 450 veterinary practices and is registered in England and Wales.
