seadown photo 1The Practice
We are an RCVS accredited small animal hospital and equine clinic, with a large experienced, friendly and supportive team (14 SA & 6 EQ vets with 17 Q&SVNs). The benefits of being an independantly owned practice means that there is very much a family / team ethos, and the development and support of individuals within the team is very important to us. We must be doing something right as 2/3’s of our nurses have been with us for 7 years or more! We are also a nurse training practice.

Our facilities and team experience means that we can work up our medicine and surgical cases to the highest standards giving a real sense of clinical satisfaction.

We also provide small animal referral services in ophthalmology, orthopaedics, and exotics.

seadown photo 2The Role
The nursing rota rotates through theatre, wards, clinics so there is plenty of variety.

Surgical or medical preferences can be accommodated so if you prefer consulting to theatre - not an issue, we run nurse clinics and this is an area we are looking to expand further, so come and talk to us.

An equine interest can be accommodated but is not essential as several of our team provide equine nursing cover

The position does require out of hours cover, but this is included in the 38.5 hour week, as there is the equivalent time off in lieu of OOH duties in the same week. If full-time weeknight duties are on average 1 in 13, and weekend duties are 1 in 5. In the case of weekend duties there are two nurses sharing the weekend duty with 1 night each, and then are off either the whole day on the Monday or from 10am, and then also off the following Friday. The OOH rota for part-time nurses would be flexible / pro-rata to accommodate your working pattern request.

The ideal candidate will be an RVN or 3rd Year SVN seeking an active role within an excellent nursing team.

The Package
Good salary commensurate with experience and additional OOH payment of up £2,900 per annum, as well as time off in lieu of duties. Nest Pension, good and flexible CPD allowance, with further staff benefits.

Location
The Hospital is located on the west side of Southampton Water in Hythe, within a stone’s throw of the New Forest National Park. Therefore, ideally located for those people that enjoy beautiful countryside with horse riding, cycling, dog walking etc, yet still within close proximity of Southampton and Bournemouth for those that prefer the attractions of city life.

Seadown Veterinary Group is a 15-vet mixed practice which was first established in 1923. It has expanded significantly over the years and now has a purpose built and fully equipped hospital at Hythe for our small animal and equine patients. Our branches at Totton and Lymington offer a convenient local service for small animal consultations. The equine and farm animal vets provide an ambulatory service across the New Forest and beyond.
