Job Details

Our 2-year programme provides you with the opportunity to get your career off to a flying start through in-practice support, mentoring and clinical caseloads.

You will be able to take responsibility for your own 1st opinion caseload, whilst having the confidence of an experienced team to support you, including a designated senior vet as mentor.

The Practice
In addition to the amazingly talented, dedicated and supportive clinical teams, you will find that we deliver a first-class, first-opinion vet service to our friendly client base.

Our facilities, knowledge and expertise allow us to offer gold-standard first-opinion preventative programmes through to advanced diagnostics and treatment, investigating clinical problems thoroughly and expertly, at our purpose built, single-site hospital.

The Role
With a structured clinical and non-clinical development programme which is designed around each graduate’s individual needs and interests, in conjunction with the University of Nottingham Vet School and other external partners, you will gain the knowledge, confidence and experience you were hoping for from your first job.

As you might expect, our facilities are state of the art, and we are in the process of installing CT which will allow for even more complex cases to be handled by the team.

An on-site lab and technician will provide plenty of opportunities for further training, and you will have the full support of an enthusiastic and motivated nursing team.

Successful Candidate
A strong team player, with well-developed communication and time-management skills. You will be keen to make a positive impact from day one, and will be keen to contribute to our continued growth.

The Package

  • A career development programme in an independent hospital individually tailored to meet your learning needs
  • The opportunity to work and learn alongside experienced and motivated colleagues
  • A designated senior vet as mentor
  • Regular meetings with your mentor to discuss progress, provide feedback and assist with RCVS DPD
  • Structured and regular CPD averaging at least 1 day per month
  • The opportunity to work with another new graduate, sharing ideas, knowledge, experience and support
  • Contact and support from new graduates in our equine department and surrounding practices
  • The opportunities to work up your own cases within realistic time scales
  • 1:3 fully supported OOH rota providing the best opportunity to work-up and treat emergency cases
  • £28k starting salary with accommodation provided
  • 20 days holiday and 4 day working week
  • RCVS, BVA, BSAVA and VDS subs provided
  • Potential further career progression opportunities beyond the Programme

Location
We are a single-site, purpose built hospital, situated in the pretty market town of Oakham. Rutland may be the smallest county in England, but there is always something of interest happening. Tourism plays a huge part in our local economy, and the area offers plenty of options for outdoor and sporting pursuits, in addition to rural and natural history interests. Good communication links to major cities and airports.

Company

We have extensive hospital facilities and diagnostic equipment in both our equine and small animal departments offering a full range of veterinary care from routine vaccines, consultations and healthcare through to specialist referral work.

Yard visits are available for equine and farm veterinary needs and to enhance the service we offer to our Equine Clients north of Grantham we have a veterinary surgeon based in Lincolnshire. We offer our clients in the Northamptonshire area an equine service to their yards.

Our team of experienced vets, nurses and support staff are continuously updating their knowledge and skills to bring your animals the level of care you would expect from a modern veterinary practice.

We are situated just off the Oakham bypass on Ashwell Road with easy access, and we have separate car and lorry parks.

Our 24 hour emergency service is covered by our own vets from our hospital premises.

In May 2010 we became clinical associates with the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science giving us access to the expertise from leading veterinary specialists and substantially increasing our already 'state of the art' equipment range.
