Veterinary Surgeon - Cumbria

We are an independently owned practice based in North Cumbria on the edge of the Lake District National Park. We are based in Skelton approx. 7 miles from Penrith with easy access to the M6. 

We are looking for a 4th vet who would like to work in a mixed practice.  In addition to our vets we have 1 VN/1 SVN/ 2 SQP’s/1 Dog Groomer and 3 support staff. We are a one branch practice that is also a veterinary nurse training practice affiliated with Myerscough College with good facilities. This is a friendly practice with excellent clients and a good mix of work.

The work ratio is around 60% large animal, 35% small animal and 5% equine. We are looking for a true team player. You will have excellent people skills as we pride ourselves on excellent and honest veterinary work not purely driven by profit. Out of Hours there will be periods of sole charge, so the right candidate will need to be able to work on their own initiative and be proactive. There will be support as you settle in and then when more challenging cases present themselves. A new graduate will receive proactive support for the first year and then when required.

The surgery is open 08.15 to 18.15 Monday to Friday and 08.30 to 15.00 on a Saturday.  With a 4th Vet the rota will be on a 1:4 basis. There is a day off before a weekend on and a long weekend off after a weekend working. The position is permanent with a 9 month probationary period.

We are looking for a veterinary surgeon with 1 year plus mixed practice experience in the UK. A new graduate with excellent EMS may be considered. There are long term Director prospects if interested but not essential.  There is a CPD allowance and staff are encouraged to make best use of relevant CPD.

We are members of SPVS and review salaries annually. There is a 10% bonus paid after two years if the successful candidate comes direct to the practice and there are no agency fees to pay.

We supply a practice van that is used for ‘work only’ which is tax effective.  Consideration would be given for private use if required.  Veterinary Surgeons need to live within a 20 minute commute and assistance will be given to find accommodation.
