Job Details
Assistant veterinary surgeon in 100% companion animal practice.
Superb normal hours rota giving time off during the day some days due to split shifting as well as a half day per week off.
Equal share of workload according to ability
Accommodation or allowance available
VDS and RCVS fees paid. CPD encouraged and paid for with days off in lieu.
25 days holiday + bank holidays (if bank holiday worked then day off in lieu)
The organisation of the rota is currently under review and can be discussed. Should we continue to do our own out of hours emergency work there are, in an average 7 day week, 4.2 call outs to the surgery, so the out of hours workload is not high. 2nd on call back up is given to new grads until they are considered competent to manage out of hours on their own. The exact rota arrangement when decided would be based on a 1:6 on call shift possibly without the emergency calls and therefore just supporting the nurses looking after the inpatients.
It is possible we may cease doing our own out of hours emergency work in the near future. I strongly believe doing our own out of hours work is a good thing for our patients, clients and importantly for the development of our younger vets however we do find it increasingly hard to find vets willing to consider emergency work so this decision may be forced on me.
