Job Details

Independent practice requires a full-time experienced veterinary surgeon to run branch practice – Solent coast

We are opening a brand new branch practice and require an experienced vet to head this. This will be sole charge, however there will be back up and significant interaction with the team based at our referral standard practice, less than 5 miles away.

The Practice
Being totally independent and relatively new, we have tried hard to create the practice that we’d all like to work in as vets, or visit as patients.

We are a very friendly, patient centric practice, priding ourselves on happy patients and clients in a relaxed atmosphere, whilst also maintaining a gold standard level of service. The new branch to open alongside Whiteley Village Vets, Warsash Village Vets, is a brand new, modern, well equipped practice, in a close-knit village community. Warsash is just five miles away from our main referral standard facility.

We offer all the paraphernalia you’d expect for a hospital standard practice, including digital radiography, ASIF, ultrasound with multiple probes, videoendoscopy, small rigid endoscopy, tonometry etc etc etc, in house laboratory, Cat 4 laser, visiting MRI, in-house certificate holders and peripatetic diplomate referral surgeries. OOH cover is provided primarily by Vetsnow, with an option to cover evenings and weekends where required.

We generally attract a highly educated, involved clientele from relatively affluent backgrounds, and treat them as such, giving choices where appropriate and explaining reasoning and problems in detail. This generally leaves us clinical freedom to treat cases to the best of our ability, with experienced back up as necessary.

The Role
An experienced veterinary surgeon (5 years minimum), with an excellent pawside manner and good all-round experience. This is a rare opportunity to develop a new small animal branch practice, benefiting from the support of a fantastic team at the well-equipped hub practice close by.

You will be primarily based at the new Warsash clinic, taking an active role in building a successful practice, with full back up from the main referral standard clinic in Whiteley. This will entail covering all first opinion vet duties at Warsash, whilst also remaining involved in the Whiteley practice, and working alongside the rest of the team there on a regular basis.

Successful Candidate
Preferably graduated for 8-10 years, with the drive and personality to build relationships with clients and patients in the local community. Client and patient skills are essential, with the ability to empathise, communicate and interact brilliantly with both.

The ideal candidate will be a good all-rounder and will have at least 5 years post graduate experience in small animal practice. By choice, they will be medically biased, to compliment the strong surgical team in situ. A certificate in Internal Medicine, cardiology or Imaging would be an advantage, otherwise the ambition to progress to this level (funded).

They will be excellent at working independently with a small team at Warsash, however also have the ability to communicate and work with the Whiteley team, supporting the surgeons with medical expertise.

The candidate will be looking to establish themselves in a village community, focusing on the level of patient and client care that only independent practices can offer.

The Package
We offer all the benefits of a totally independent gold standard practice, enabling you to do what you qualified for – treating patients and clients properly.

  • Experienced, supportive and friendly team.
  • Generous CPD allowance. Certificate funding.
  • Excellent accommodation is available.
  • Various discounts through work.
  • The overall package will vary, commensurate with experience and requirements.

Warsash is a small coastal village with easy access to road and rail networks, on the River Hamble, surrounded by nature reserves and The Solent.  Southampton, Portsmouth, Fareham and Winchester are within easy reach.  London is about an hour away.

Company

Whiteley Village Vet Centre Ltd. is commonly known as Whiteley Vets. We are a new, independent practice situated in Whiteley, Hampshire, aiming to provide top quality veterinary care to the pets of Whiteley, the Hamble Valley, Fareham and the surrounding area including the M27 corridor. We aim to provide almost everything your pet may need medically or surgically with a totally honest open approach, keeping you involved in key decision making where appropriate. We pride ourselves on our integrity and in our absolute utter belief that your pet genuinely comes first.

The practice has been set up by Cara Golden (BVM&S MRCVS) and her partner, Martin Moody, who is the Business Director, leaving Cara free to concentrate on clinical matters. As many people in the area know, Cara used to be Senior Vet at Harbour Vets Southsea running that clinic for approx. 5 years, and before that was at their Havant branch for nearly 5 years. She spent her initial working years in referral practice, and has always strived to do the best possible job in everything that she undertakes. We have designed and built a state of the art, purpose built facility to enable us to continue to provide your pets with the optimal possible care.
