Job Details

We are opening a brand new cat clinic with an in-house rehoming hub and spacious staff quarters. We are building a passionate, empathetic, hardworking, charity minded team to be headed by an experienced vet-and-vet-nurse duo, who will lead a growing mixed-competency team and be responsible for the daily life of the practice.

If you are committed to your profession, compassionate, understand charitable work, are comfortable working within a mixed-competency team and have a strong interest in feline medicine, we want to hear from you.

Who we are:
We are the new North London branch of an young, successful, fast-growing registered cat charity, The Catcuddles Sanctuary, currently based in South-East London. We are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming cats in need. We advocate responsible cat-guardianship, compulsory neutering of pet cats and heavily engage in community-based TNR initiatives. The North London cat clinic will be our first. We will be open to the public on a commercial basis, also servicing the needs of our cats in care across the charity.

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary
  • Spacious in-house staff flat(s)
  • Use of charity car
  • Flexible hours possible
  • A friendly, hard-working cat-focused environment

What we require:

  • You are a qualified and registered veterinary surgeon with a minimum of 5 years experience in the UK/EU/Commonwealth.
  • You have excellent medical and surgical skills, ideally specialising in feline medicine.
  • You are highly motivated, pro-active and able to multi-task. Your duties will include dealing with the veterinary needs of the clinic and of the rehoming hub.
  • Travelling within London will be required on a weekly basis.
  • People management and communication skills will be a distinct advantage.

This position is suitable for someone able to commit fully to building a strong specialist veterinary practice as part of a fast expanding charity and who is not afraid to work hard to achieve it.

To be considered, please click the apply button, attaching your CV and cover letter explaining why you believe you are ideal for the relevant role.

Company

The Catcuddles Cat Clinic is the first Catcuddles activity to be operating on fees rather than donations, though those are most welcome to.  We can now help more cats in many more ways, and in the process generate funding for the expansion of our cat work across London and beyond. Your contribution to our income, your vet bill in other words, will not be lining any corporate pockets. Instead, you will be helping treat and rescue many more deserving cats, both at the clinic, at our rehoming hubs and across our fostering network.

The Catcuddles Cat Clinic is charity-run and aims to be initially charity-funded. The aim of the Clinic is to provide affordable, no-corners-cut vet care to your feline, and offer practical help and advice on cats you may also be caring for, perhaps cats in your gardens or communities. All cats deserve care and all deserve a home that suits them; this is where the Cat Clinic team and the main Charity team work together to treat, prepare, rehabilitate and rehome cats to permanent homes across London and beyond.

The Catcuddles Cat Clinic offers a full range of first-opinion services for cats only (sorry doggies!) at an affordable cost to the owner, with a clear conscience, genuine focus on the cat, and with compassion first and foremost.  All our services are affordable to the majority of cat owners and lovers, so that more cats can be given the vet care they need without it having to cost a fortune.  Having said that, we have not skimmed on quality or standards, as those of you who do not yet know us will soon realise.

Covid-19

During the UK lockdown, aside of our own Catcuddles extended kitty family, we catered primarily for cats cared for or referred to us by charities and abandoned cats in need, most sponsored by the good people of London. As these cats were not prioritised by private vets, we felt they had to be our primary “beneficiaries”.  As lockdown eased, we opened our doors safely -observing social distancing- to all members of the public and their cats by appointment.

Neutering first and foremost

At the Catcuddles Cat Clinic, we treat all cats on one condition and in line with the core Catcuddles philosophy: that your kitty is neutered and if not, we offer neutering at a very low cost (or even for free if you are in receipt of benefits, a student or pensioner, under the C4 London-wide neutering scheme).

We also offer to neuter strays you may be feeding under the C4 Neutering Scheme, to help contain cat overpopulation in our city and keep cats healthier for longer.

Preventative Care, full in-house diagnostics and more.

The Clinic is equipped to offer not just your annual health checks, vaccinations, microchipping and parasite treatments. We also cater for a whole host of other needs, some evident and some very well hidden by our feline companions. From dentals to blood tests, urinalysis to in-house ultrasound and  digital x-ray diagnostics,  life-changing operations to niggly lump removals, we will honestly assess a cat’s treatment needs and discuss your options being mindful of cost but also respectful of your cat’s needs.

Specialist referrals and 24/7 vet care needs

For the kitties that upon examination and/or treatment will require a second opinion or expertise of specialists in their respective veterinary fields, such as orthopedic surgeons, eye specialists, etc. we operate a referral scheme, as do all first-opinion vet practices.

We do not aim to offer 24/7 services in the foreseeable future and for these, we will be linked to a 24/7 vet hospital. Until then, emergency care cases that need 24/7 hospitalisation are directed to local 24/7 hospitals.
