Veterinary Surgeon (Shelter Medicine Programme) - Camden, North London
We have an exciting opportunity for a clinician to complement our shelter medicine team on a part time basis, working in our partner cat shelters in North London. As a role model for RVC students, excellent communication skills and the ability to provide and receive feedback are essential. An understanding of shelter medicine, a certificate or strong experience in feline medicine and a strong focus on the importance of preventative health care is essential. Including confidence and experience in providing a high quality, high volume neuter service.
You will be working on Wednesdays caring for the cats at the RSPCA foster unit based in Enfield. Every other Tuesday you will provide care for the cats at Wood Green the Animals Charity. The days are busy and fast paced and involve teaching practical skills such as paediatric neutering, dentistry and health checks to final year vet students.
The post holder will oversee final year RVC veterinary students spending time at the shelter learning first day skills and how to deliver high quality shelter medicine care. Your role will be to ensure delivery of the RVC’s clinical and teaching goals in an efficient and caring way, including teaching of neuter and dental surgeries. Confidence in your own skills as well as experience in clinical teaching, is beneficial.
A desire to complete further studies in shelter medicine or the Cert AVP or equivalent would be advantageous with study both supported and encouraged.
Weekend and evening cover is not expected and normal hours of work are 8.30 am - 4.30 pm unless in exceptional circumstances.
We offer a generous reward package including 6 weeks annual leave pro rata, and unlimited free access to RVC online CPD to support personal development plans.
