Small Animal Surgical Specialist – New Zealand

VetSOS in New Zealand have an opening for a recently qualified or experienced board-certified surgeon to work alongside Dr. Warrick Bruce (Senior Resident Surgeon) and our team of highly skilled nurses as the second specialist in our purpose-built clinic in Hamilton, New Zealand.

We are interested in applicants who are competent in all areas of orthopaedic, soft tissue, oncologic and spinal surgery, however the position could suit an applicant with an interest in soft tissue or oncological surgery and a passion for growing this part of the referral case load. We value someone who is a team player; committed to our patients and clients. A calm, relaxed style and a willingness to fit in and be flexible are essential traits.

In terms of the hours of work, we would ideally like to grow the business and this role will be a full-time role, and hours can be flexible, depending on caseload.

More about VetSOS:

  • Our clinic is already well-equipped with all the equipment you would expect in a specialist referral facility including: a dedicated theatre with filtered positive pressure air flow and quality lighting, digital radiography, an array of orthopaedic air-powered tools, electric and air-powered spinal equipment, arthroscopy, fluoroscopy, endoscopy, etc. Although already well resourced, we would be willing to invest in additional equipment that would meet the needs and interests of the successful applicant.
  • We are a dedicated, small animal surgical referral practice and we work within a purpose-built Pet Doctors companion animal clinic in Hamilton. We have our own consultation room and specialised theatre but share other facilities within the general practice.  This allows us the flexibility to be part of a larger team and facility as well as the independence to work as an autonomous business. Our Surgical Team is led by Dr Warrick Bruce, who has trained and worked both in NZ and internationally. Dr Bruce invented the TTO procedure for the treatment of canine cruciate disease, which has become the technique of choice for many surgeons around the world.

Moving to New Zealand – We will help you get here!

  • If you are interested in joining our team, we will help you (and your family) relocate to New Zealand. We have relocation packages available, which include assistance with airfares, immigration support, help to register to practise in New Zealand, accommodation and transfers. We will help you make this transition as smooth as possible!

Before you apply…

Please check that you are eligible to be accepted by the ACVS, ECVS, or a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and can register as a surgical specialist in NZ. Visit the NZ Veterinary council website for more info: http://www.vetcouncil.org.nz
