Start the rewarding career you deserve

Do you want to be part of a small, friendly team where everyone looks out for each other and we believe in having fun while we work? Do you want to play a vital part in bringing the very best professional care with compassion to our patients and their owners? If so, Mckenzie Vets is the place for you! An opportunity has arisen to join our small but mighty team and we are looking forward to welcoming you. Cara is sad to leave us and is happy to talk to you about what a lovely place Mckenzies is to work in.

What you’ll be stepping into

The role is very varied with all nurses taking an equal share of anaesthesia and surgery, recovery of patients, care of hospitalised patients, nurse consults including second vaccines, kennel cough vaccines, post op checks, weight checks, regular injections, laser treatments, canine confidence visits etc, and running tests in our well equipped inhouse lab. There are no reception duties. Further training and CPD is fully supported - two of our nurses are almost finished doing Certificates in Medical Nursing and Anaesthesia. We want all our team to feel motivated and have the ability to progress in what is a fantastic career.

Ideally we are looking for an RVN with experience, but we are a training practice so can also offer support if you are an SVN wanting to apply.

Fix or Flex - find your perfect balance

Ideally this would be a full-time role but we can be very flexible for the right candidate so we welcome applications for either full-time or part-time/job share. Our normal working day is from 8:30pm - 7pm and full-time is anticipated to be 40 hours over 4 days with a set day off and one earlier 5pm finish each week. However, we are very willing to alter the hours to fit what you need to give you a good work-life balance. There is no on-call as our out of hours is provided by Vets Now (we are also closed most bank holidays) and approximately 1 Saturday morning a month with a 3pm finish the following Friday.

Why Mckenzie Vets?

Mckenzie Vets has been at the heart of Alexandria since 1955 and although a lot has changed since then, our values of working hard to maintain an excellent reputation and a loyal client base remain. We are fortunate in having many lovely clients and patients of all shapes, sizes and breeds. We operate under Fear Free principles, meaning that the majority of our patients are happy to come and see us, and we encourage socialisation visits to help nervous dogs. We are 100% small animal, but this includes some exotics and sometimes turtles and otters from Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre - always exciting! The building is purpose built and although small, we make the best of our space. We have a waiting room, 2 consulting rooms, another lab/nurse consulting room, kennel room, prep room and dedicated theatre. We have a lot of modern equipment including digital radiography, dental radiography, new dental machine, ultrasound, K-laser, multiparameter monitor and fully equipped lab. We are RCVS GP accredited, have a Cat Friendly Silver Award and can offer acupuncture to our patients.

Mckenzies has a lovely team made up of 5 vets, Head Nurse, 2 other RVNs, VCA, Practice Manager and receptionists. We believe friendships at work are vital to help with the job and there's a always fair bit of banter going on! We work hard but still have a lot of fun and enjoy fitting in the occasional Christmas Fuddle or Great Mckenzies Bake Off as well as raising money for charity by taking part in the Kilt Walk, Shine Walk and cake sales for Macmillan. We have held Pet First Aid classes and had stands at the Drymen Show and Lomond Shores Top Dogs Day Out. If you think we could be a fit for you and you for us, we would love to hear from you
