Are you passionate about anaesthesia and looking to advance your career in a fast paced referral setting? We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled Senior Veterinary Nurse to join our dynamic Anaesthesia and Pain Management team, led by experts in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia.
Diversify your skills
As a Senior Anaesthesia Nurse, you’ll manage a diverse caseload across various services, giving you the chance to continually develop your skills in anaesthesia and patient care. You will support and advance all anaesthesia services supporting Orthopaedics, Soft Tissue, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Medicine, Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging. Providing the highest standards of patient care, you will work collaboratively within our clinical team to ensure the service works efficiently and effectively.
Key responsibilities will include:
*Working with our clinicians to create bespoke anaesthetic plans for a variety of cases
*Prepare patients for anaesthesia or sedation including IV placement, vascular access and administering premeds
*Assist with the safe induction of anaesthesia
*Prepare patients for an array of surgical and medical procedures
*Confidently manage anaesthetised patients ranging from stable to critical, including management of complications
*Maximise patient safety by utilising multiparameter monitoring equipment and react quickly and attentively to any changes
*Provide compassionate and comprehensive care to hospitalised inpatients
You will be encouraged to build on your existing knowledge and skills with regular group sessions, patient-side training, and instruction in advanced anaesthetic equipment including mechanical ventilation. Our Senior Nurses are also actively involved in contributing to the training and supervision of the nursing team.

As a large multidisciplinary referral hospital, we offer impressive facilities and state-of-the-art equipment which enable us to provide outstanding treatment to our patients from the initial consultation right through to discharging them from our care. We are conveniently based in Ringwood, Hampshire, just off the A31.
We have an outstanding team of recognised specialists across a multitude of disciplines. We also have a dedicated rehabilitation team who provide physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to aide post-operative recovery. The care and comfort of our patients is always at the front of our minds. Our advanced nursing team provide excellent care to all patients during their stay at SCVS. We also have a team of dedicated veterinary care assistants to ensure patients feel reassured and comforted during their stay.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Veterinary Nurse with a strong interest in anaesthesia. You should thrive in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment and enjoy working collaboratively with others. Excellent teamwork and communication skills are essential, along with a proactive attitude and the ability to contribute to the success of the team. We value a commitment to continuous learning, and we seek someone who is eager to build on their knowledge and develop new skills in anaesthesia and patient care. Previous experience in a referral practice is beneficial, as you will be expected to plan, implement and support with the training and development of the rest of the nursing team.
Working Hours
This is a full-time, 40hr/week position, working Monday to Friday. We also have a 1:5 weekend on-call rota with time off in lieu.
