Salary up to £72,000

Relocation Allowance up to £3,000

Castle Vets is a Small Animal hospital looking for an experienced individual to join our team of 8 vets. We offer a collaborative environment where we support individual interests, from medicine to surgery. We prioritize your professional growth and support your career goals. With a team that includes certificate holders in ophthalmology and diagnostic imaging, we offer fully funded certificate programs and will support your CPD schedule.

There is no sole charge as there are a minimum of 3 vets working each day, with at least 2 vets operating (2 separate theatres, plus separate dental and imaging suites). We have a large, experienced team who support each other sharing case knowledge and advice daily. We have 2 consult only vets so we would ideally be looking for a vet who also enjoys surgery. Flexible appointment length based on case requirements.

Rota patterns that work for you

The right person is most important so we will happily discuss full-time, part-time or flexible working hours. Full-time work is normally split over 4 long days or 5 shorter days. Shift patterns cover varying portions of our opening hours: 8-7pm. Plus Saturdays 8:30-1pm. There is no OOH/bank holidays- we are a VetsNow host practice so are lucky to be able to keep our inpatients on site, with dedicated care. This enables further skills sharing between the team.

We are passionate about work-life balance and run monthly wellbeing activities within the practice and also a monthly social activity outside of work. These have included activities such as a wellbeing breathwork session and a team doing the muddy dog challenge.

Join our RCVS accredited small animal hospital

We are an RCVS accredited small animal hospital and hold ISFM gold standard cat friendly status as well as the silver rabbit friendly award. The team are also currently working towards the dog friendly award.

We recently refurbished a number of areas within the practice, including our cat only dedicated side of the building. Why not come and have a look around? We have:

*Purpose-built building - separate dog and cat waiting rooms, kennels, prep areas and separate theatres

*On-site CT Scanner

*Video endoscopy

*Digital x-ray

*Dedicated Dental suite with new dental x-ray machine

*Colour flow doppler ultrasound

*Oxygen kennels

*Slit lamp bio-microscope, Tonometry and cryotherapy

Our aim is to provide a caring, professional personalised service, that recognises the individual bond you have with your pet and works with you to try and keep your pet happy and well throughout its life.

Castle Vets is a fully independant small animal veterinary practice. It is owned and managed by veterinary surgeons David Terry and Peter Jackman, both of whom have been with us for over 25 years and still work full time at the practice.

Castle Vets is a  large, single centre, small animal veterinary practice in central Reading. We have been on our site on Tilehurst road since 1972 and our recently rebuilt premises now includes a separate but integrated cat clinic, outstanding in-patient wards and operating theatres (including advanced dentistry), spacious comfortable waiting areas, 9 consulting rooms for both veterinary and nurse consultations, diagnostics room with x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy equipment and a well equipped laboratory.

We are proud to be the only local practice offering completely separate cat friendly facilities. Our integrated Cat Clinic was awarded the coveted Gold Award from International Cat Care and is part of our outstanding air-conditioned modern layout, including spacious segregated in-patient wards and operating theatres, comfortable waiting areas and a large free car park.

Our outstanding facilities make us the ideal choice as host practice for Vets Now who provide many local practices with out of hours emergency cover from our site. Our extensive facilities and collaboration with Vets Now, means that your pet can be cared for on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should the need arise. A minimum of one veterinary surgeon and one qualified veterinary nurse remain on duty at the practice premises, whatever the time of day or night, to ensure regular monitoring and the administration of any required medications to our patients.
