Job Details
Fancy a full-time role that is only 3 days a week and no OOH?
Shuttleworth Veterinary Group is all about the team, flexibility, and work-life balance, which is why we’re offering an unusual full-time rota, which gives you the time and the energy to enjoy life both inside and outside of work. Being an independent practice also means that we have the freedom to make sure our clinical protocols and processes offer the best service to our clients and the well-being of our team.
Hammad took over the practice from Mrs Shuttleworth (hence the name!) when she retired in 2008, and he has built up a brilliant team. Our vets and nurses are all long-standing because it’s simply a lovely place to work.
“Shuttleworth Vets is a great place to work. They offered me great flexibility with the rota and we have a really lovely team, who I really enjoy working with. I have the clinical freedom to work up cases to a high level and always feel listened to and supported.” Alice MRCVS
Our vets have a range of interests; Hammad enjoys all surgeries and is particularly interested in orthopaedics. Chelsea joined the team in 2018 and is studying for her diagnostic imaging certificate. Kath, who worked for the surgery many years ago and returned in 2019, has a particular interest in medical cases. Alice graduated from Liverpool in 2015 and has completed her CertAVP in internal medicine. She plans to start a dermatology certificate soon. Matthew, who completed his ophthalmology certificate with us, has recently left us to pursue his passion for ophthalmology, so we are looking for a vet with some experience to join us.
We have a great kit, including a new DR and ultrasound, endoscopy, referral-level ophthalmology equipment, and dental x-ray on the way. We also benefit from visiting specialists such as Ben Griffin of Vet Practice Support, who helps with more advanced ultrasonography, Hannah Stephenson, a specialist cardiologist, and VetXS, who provides referral orthopaedic surgery services here at the practice.
Our current full-time vets work a 3-day week; they really enjoy having two weekdays totally free, but we can be very flexible and are happy to work out a rota that suits you, including part-time hours if you prefer. The 1:4 weekends are just Saturdays (9 am to 1.30 pm) and Sundays (10 am to 12.30 pm). Our out-of-hours are outsourced Armac Vets, which is only 15 minutes away, so your evenings and weekends are free to enjoy, and from the start of the new year, they will also cover our bank holidays.
We have an amazingly skilled, capable team of RVNs to help the days run smoothly and provide the vets with fantastic support. For example, our nurses run 30-minute puppy & kitten consults before the vet’s health examination and vaccination to allow the nurse to provide all the routine care advice so the vets can concentrate on the clinical examination.
We are a sociable team that often enjoys getting together outside of work, whether for a casual drink or to try something new—like the painting and prosecco night we are currently planning. We also appreciate a bit of friendly competition. Recently, we took part in the sunflower challenge, and we love celebrating the festive season with our annual Christmas craft competitions. Past years have included bauble decorating and wreath-making, and this year, we're getting creative with stockings.
Rawtenstall is a pretty market town in the Rossendale Valley in the heart of the beautiful south Pennines of Lancashire. There is plenty of nature to explore and amazing hill walking. For the adrenaline junkies, there are lots of high-octane outdoor and indoor adrenaline sports attractions. We’re lucky to be close to Manchester and Liverpool, but the lakes are just an hour away.
We can offer:
- A salary of £40,000 to £70,000, depending on experience
- 6.6 weeks holiday, including bank holidays
- Flexible CPD allowance, with certificates supported
- Professional fees for RCVS, VDS, BVA, and BSAVA paid for
- Private health care
- Enhanced sick leave
- Enhanced maternity and paternity benefits
If you want to know more about our fantastic, supportive team, call us for an informal chat or apply now.
