Job Details

Looking forward to going to work each day? Want to be part of a team that genuinely cares for each other?

We’re on the lookout for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, professional, and forward-thinking team at our Kilmarnock clinic. Whether you're an experienced vet or a new graduate eager to start your career, we want someone dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care and enthusiastic about making a real difference. We value individuals who bring that extra spark that helps us stand out from the rest.

A Little Bit About Us

We’re a close-knit team of 45 colleagues across three practices in Ayrshire, dedicated to delivering clinical excellence and providing the best client experience possible. How do we do it? We believe in teamwork and live by our practice values every day:
  • We treat others as we would like to be treated.
  • We support each other and foster a fun, communicative environment.
  • We value work-life balance and tailor rotas and packages to fit each individual’s needs.

Flexibility, understanding, and compassion are at the heart of how we work, making us proud of the supportive culture we’ve built.

Our Clinical Team

We have a strong clinical team of 12 vets and 12 RVNs with a wide variety of special interests, including acupuncture and surgery, with one of our vet partners holding a surgery certificate. Each of our three practices has a Clinical Lead Vet who is GDP-trained, and we are an RVN training practice. We are committed to supporting and developing the next generation of veterinary professionals and dedicate time specifically for this purpose.

Hear from Our Team

"I’ve been at Vets4Pets Ayr for 10 years, and I can confidently say that I’ve been incredibly happy here. I started as a fairly inexperienced vet but received the support I needed to build my skills and confidence. Throughout significant life changes, including maternity leaves, the management has been understanding and accommodating, helping me balance family life with career progression."
- Christine, Clinical Lead Vet

What We Want From You

We’re looking for someone passionate about veterinary care who thrives on teamwork, has a positive attitude, and isn’t afraid to bring fresh ideas. Whether you’re an experienced vet ready to mentor junior colleagues or a new graduate seeking support as you develop your skills, we’ll give you the tools and environment to succeed.

We want you to:
  • Use your initiative, share your experience, and support your colleagues.
  • Be a team player who enjoys the occasional night out and has fun at work.
  • Be honest about your goals and work-life balance-we’re here to help you achieve that.

Freedom and Progression

You’ll have access to excellent equipment, a supportive and forward-thinking team, and opportunities to develop your skills. We value ongoing client care and case continuity so that you can build lasting relationships with clients. We also have a diverse caseload if you’re interested in pursuing a certificate.

You will be based at our Kilmarnock practice but will have the support of colleagues across all three of our Ayrshire locations.

What We Offer
  • 1:4 Saturday rota with no out-of-hours
  • Start date of March/April 2025
  • Flexible hours (3 to 4 days per week or hours that suit you)
  • Professional fees paid (VDS, BVA, RCVS)
  • CPD encouraged with a generous allowance and days off
  • Pension
  • AXA private healthcare (extendable to family)
  • Company benefits scheme (including 20% off at Pets at Home and the Vet Group)
  • Salary range: £35,000 to £65,000 (DOE)

We would be happy to consider new graduate applications as well as experienced vets. So, if you're enthusiastic about joining a caring, dynamic team, we’d love to hear from you!

Pets just see people. They aren’t biased and they don’t discriminate. We take our inspiration from pets, and we value and respect difference in all its forms. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and every colleague can help us achieve this. We encourage our people to be themselves so even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!
