Join our Wards team at Swift Referrals
We're seeking a passionate and dedicated Wards Nurse to join our team - if you're an ambitious individual looking to expand your inpatient nursing skills in a supportive, close-knit environment, this role is for you. You will play a vital role in our mission to deliver exceptional patient care, collaborating closely with our clinical team to support and advance our referral services across Soft Tissue, Orthopaedics, Neurology and Internal Medicine. Your responsibilities will span across our canine and feline wards as well as our dedicated ICU. Nursing duties include a mixture of post op patient care, complex medical cases, a varied OOH caseload, and ECC/intensive care cases. There is great opportunity to utilise and advance your nursing skills such as placement and/or maintenance of central catheters, PICC lines, arterial lines etc. Flexibility is essential, as we encourage our entire team to be versatile and assist in other disciplines and emergencies as needed.
Our commitment to veterinary excellence
Opened in 2019 and purpose-built to industry leading standards, Swift Referrals is a multidisciplinary referral hospital offering the very best in veterinary excellence, all under one roof. We specialise in the areas of orthopaedics, neurology, internal medicine and soft tissue surgery, housing world-class facilities on our premises from advanced imaging machines to specialist treatment and aftercare rooms. We have 1.5T Siemens MRI scanner, 128 Slice GE CT scanner, doppler ultrasound, endoscopy, arthroscopy and state-of-the-art operating theatres, and separate dog and cat wards. We also have a dedicated ECC and OOH centre which houses a large ICU for our critical patients. We are fully committed to the wellbeing of our team of over 80 employees, and we are thrilled to see how this is reflected in the consistent positive feedback in our team satisfaction surveys.
Our ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate will be an RVN with strong nursing experience, ideally in a referral hospital but we will also consider applicants from a first opinion hospital background. You should be used to nursing a variety of hospitalised inpatients across a variety of disciplines. Most importantly, we are looking for nurses who align with our vision and values. We care with integrity and transparency, with the wellbeing of our patients at the heart of everything we do.
Working pattern
This is a 36hr/week position, worked over a 4-day working week. We have a 1:4 weekend rota which is supplemented with time off in lieu. While we have a dedicated out-of-hours team, you may be asked occasionally to assist with holiday or sickness cover if needed. The shift pattern comprises 4 x 9hr days (plus a 1hr lunch break), shift times will vary between 07:30-17:30, 08:00-18:00 or 10:00-20:00. This is a 12-month fixed term contract position, but there is always a possibility of discussing a permanent position at the end of the FTC should a suitable role be available at the time.
