Company

The practice offers a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to pet owners from its veterinary teams in Bridgwater and Burnham on Sea. There are seven vets and nine nurses operating from the two sites covering an area stretching from the Mendips to the Quantocks and from the Bristol Channel out across the Somerset Levels.

Blake Vets can trace its roots back to circa 1895  and originally had it's Bridgwater premises in the town centre before moving to its current purpose built surgery on Showground Road, just off Taunton Road in 2004.

Since 2008, we have focused soley on providing high quality care to companion animals in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Jim Hughes, Sue Webster and Richard Bruce are the directors of the practice and are assisted by four other experienced veterinary surgeons.

We have a strong nursing team of six qualified and two student nurses to support the vets led by our Head Nurse Rachel Watkins RVN who has over 20 years of veterinary nursing experience.

Qualified and student nurses are skilled professionals who take consultations and perform certain minor surgical procedures. They are able to give advice on all aspects of small animal care, take blood pressure measurements and blood samples and clip nails to name but a few of their skills.

We are committed to the whole team's continued development, from the office staff, receptionists, nurses to the vets through post-graduate training, both in-house and externally.  Everyone is encouraged to develop their own personal skills and interests within the practice. Some areas of special interest include eye problems, skin conditions, heart disease, reptiles, diagnostic imaging, feline medicine, soft tissue surgery, dentistry and oral healthcare for life of our dogs, cats and rabbits.

All patients who need to stay in overnight are given 24 hour, on-site, nursing care at our Bridgwater surgery

Burnham on Sea Surgery

Our surgery at Burnham on Sea has 2 consulting rooms, one operating theatre, a kennelling area and a well stocked waiting room which has a wide variety of pet food, toys, shampoos and dental products for your pet.  We carry out minor surgical procedures at this surgery including routine spays, castrates, lump removal and dentals. All major surgery is carried out at our Bridgwater site.
