After eight years at the practice, our lovely and hugely popular vet, Jodie, is moving back to Cornwall to be closer to family.
“If I could pick up the practice and the people and take them all with me, then I would. It is a wonderful, friendly team and just a lovely place to work. Getting out of the practice on your lunch hour to go home and walk the dogs is the norm, there is time in the day for admin, and everyone helps each other out. I would really encourage anyone to come and work here; I’m going to miss it so much!’’ Jodie
There is something special about this practice that makes people want to stay. Emma, one of our other vets, has been with us since she graduated 11 years ago and is now an advanced practitioner in cardiology. This isn’t just a place to work; we're a practice where you can grow and thrive in your career.
Our brilliant maternity cover vet, Nicola, also enjoyed her time with us at Estcourt Vets.
“A warm and welcoming practice in a beautiful area. The high clinical standards, coupled with a good work-life balance, make this a dream place to work. If only my pesky other half would consider moving back to Wiltshire, I’d be back in a flash!’’ Nicola
About the practice
We’re a 7-vet independent single-site practice in Devizes, a thriving market town tucked away on the edge of Salisbury Plain and the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
We’re lucky to have the best of both worlds; we’ve kept the beautiful Georgian building for consultations but have recently had a refurbishment, which has allowed us to create lovely new purpose-built, air-conditioned facilities that provide us all with a great working environment. We’ve added two operating theatres, an imaging suite with endoscopy, digital X-ray, and ultrasound, including a dedicated cardiac probe. There is also a separate dental theatre with dental X-ray and separate cat, dog, and isolation wards. We also have a large meeting space primarily used for in-house training events and CPD.
Our practice culture is collaborative. We have monthly vet meetings, and we involve you and your experience in clinical decision-making rather than focusing on your financial targets and KPIs. VetCT also offers teleconsulting support for our vets, and Rata offers visiting orthopaedic support for more complex orthopaedic procedures. We also have a very good relationship with nearby Eastcott referrals, and complex OOH cases can be transferred there if more intensive overnight care is needed.
The team gets on really well and is always chatting through their cases together. CPD is important, and we have several advanced practitioners in the practice. There is no cap on CPD, and we are happy to support certificates. We also recently invited an external trainer in and held a practice CPR training day.
About the Role
We’re happy to chat about a full- or part-time role. Our full-time rota is a 4-day week, with just 1:6 Saturdays (8.45 am - 4 pm). Our team leave on time because we finish our consults well before the finish time, and there is plenty of time for admin. The hours are genuinely sociable, and we get proper lunch breaks. Our out-of-hours are outsourced, so your nights, Sundays and bank holidays are free.
- A salary of £47,000 to £67,000+ depending on experience and qualifications
- CPD allowance with no set cap and certificates supported and fully funded
- Practice membership with Webinar Vet
- The option of large (4 bedroom) and newly decorated accommodation in Devizes
- Private Health Care
- 5 weeks plus bank holidays
Devizes is a great place to live and work, with great pubs, restaurants, and regular arts and food festivals. It’s surrounded by beautiful landscapes, rolling hills, and tranquil canals yet within striking distance of Bath, Bristol, and the M4 corridor.
Please don’t hesitate to call for an informal chat with any of our vet team or apply now.
