Job Details
Glenshane Veterinary Clinic have an exciting opportunity for a Farm Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly team based at their Maghera, Kilrea and Dungiven branches.
This role would suit a Veterinary Surgeon looking to work in an equally mixed dairy-beef-sheep practice. There is the option of adding in some small animal work should this be of an interest.
Our ideal candidate will be a Veterinary Surgeon with a bias for farm work, preferable with 1yrs + experience, but newly graduated Veterinary Surgeons are welcome to apply and will be considered. We are regularly out visiting our farm clients, so a driving license is an essential requirement for the role.
About Glenshane Veterinary Clinic
We have a team of 6 Veterinary Surgeons of which 4 have 20 years’+ experience and a dedicated Veterinary Nursing team and Support team.
We are a 3-branch practice, at the foot of the Sperrin Mountain where two of our branches have a farm animal handling facility. We have all the usual equipment in the main branch for both farm and small animal practice including easy scan/small animal ultrasound, IDEXX lab station, microscope, Ovacte, x-ray, endoscope, ECG, kennelling/stabling facilities, small ruminant operating table, and a horse stock.
Our farm practice has been established more than 50 years and the work includes a good mix of dairy, beef, and sheep. Our farm work mainly consists of routine health checks and surgery, emergency work and TB testing. We do however have a can-do attitude for anything uncommon with the support from our team of experienced vets. We have long standing relationships with a lot of our clients giving a real family feel to the practice.
Life beyond work
Nestled in the Sperrin mountains there is so much to explore. Maghera is a charming town brimming with history, natural beauty, and a warm community spirit. While it may not be as well-known as some of its neighbouring cities, Maghera offers a delightful array of activities and attractions. Whether you're a history buff, an outdoor enthusiast, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, Maghera has something for everyone.
Nature lovers and adventurers will be drawn to the scenery in the North of Ireland. The Sperrin mountains offer breath-taking views and numerous opportunities for hiking and exploring. Our spectacular scenic North Coast and the Giant Causeway are only 45min drive away.
If you are looking for city life, we are a short 40-minute drive to Derry or Belfast and 30 minutes gets you to the closest airport.
We care about your work/life balance
We offer flexible working patterns that flex with you and your lifestyle. Whether you are looking to flex your rota hours to balance the school holidays, fix to navigate the school runs or just looking to strike that balance between home and work life. We can offer flexibility that works for all team members.
The standard full-time vet rota consists of a 40-hour week, working 1 weekend in 4 with a long weekend off in lieu the following week. There is an OOH requirement to work 1 night per week on call, in the winter months and 1 night per week every fortnight, in summer months. Although this is advertised as a full-time role, we are open to both full time and part time applications.
