Job Details

Are you an enthusiastic RVN ready to thrive in a fun and supportive environment?

Kingdom Veterinary Clinic is an independent 6-vet small animal practice in Glenrothes, Fife. Our long-standing, close-knit team supports each other through thick and thin, and that includes sharing a good laugh (especially at ourselves!). Don't take our word for it; ask Bill, the practice owner, who still hasn't recovered from the shock (and amusement) of our "dress as the boss" surprise for his recent birthday celebrations!

One of our lovely RVN's, Hilsa, recently hung up her greens after a phenomenal 33 years with us, so we are looking for a passionate RVN to join our nursing team and who knows, you might just love it as much as Hilsa did!

“I worked at KVC for 33 years.  During this time there have been many changes in the veterinary profession, some for the best, some not so much.  Through it all the practice team was friendly and supportive, whether the challenges were personal or professional.  There were always opportunities for learning and career progression if required.  I still enjoy popping in to catch up with a cup of tea!”- Hilsa

Kingdom Veterinary Clinic

As an RCVS nurse training practice, we love to nurture talent. Many of our nurses began their careers here and thrived in our supportive environment, which is why they’re still with us. We want you to feel fulfilled and use all your nursing skills, from inpatient care and anaesthesia to nurse clinics and undertaking Schedule 3 procedures, including stitch-ups. We will always encourage you to follow your interests, and if you’re looking to take on a certificate, we will absolutely support this. We would love to expand our range of nurse clinics and would welcome your ideas to help us achieve this.

Our Team

Our 7-vet team sees a varied caseload of surgical and medical cases, and as the only local practice that sees exotics, we have some more unusual patients, too.

Michelle first met the team during work experience in 2008, before working Saturdays here while undertaking her nurse training. Fifteen years later, she’s still here and supports the next generation of nurses as both our Head Nurse and Clinical Coach. Michelle particularly enjoys ophthalmology, wound management, and exotics and has learned a lot thanks to Bill’s interests in exotics. Marisa, our other senior nurse, joined us in 2011 as an experienced RVN.  She is interested in ECC and more recently is developing an interest in dentistry.  Zoe completed her nurse training here, graduating in 2019. She has a special interest in nutrition and enjoys running our weight clinics. Jessica, our SVN, will soon start her nurse training, and along with our ACAs, Annie and Giulia, provides invaluable support to our clinical team.

Kingdom Veterinary Clinic

Our three amazing receptionists keep things running smoothly, and our Practice Manager, Ashley, champions a happy and engaged team, fostering an open environment where everyone's ideas are valued and contribute to shaping the future of the practice.

“I love working at Kingdom.  I enjoy the company of every one of my colleagues and I feel like that in itself makes a job worth coming to every day.  There is clinical freedom and involvement in decision making I don’t feel you get at many other practices.  Be it which equipment to buy, opening hours, staffing decisions – the opinions of staff are genuinely heard.  I have been here for over 12 years now and am not planning on leaving any time soon.” Michelle, MRCVS

The Rota

Work-life balance is important to us, and we’re always looking at ways to improve the rota for our team. Ultimately, we aim to move to a four-day week. Our RVNs currently work a five-day week, with the majority of the shifts finishing at 5 p.m., plus a 1 p.m. finish each week. We are flexible with the rota and are happy to chat about part-time hours if you have other commitments to work around.

We do provide our own OOHs, ensuring continuity of care for our patients. However, our vets handle the phones and take the lead with inpatient care, so our nurses are only called in when needed, which means you can be on-call from home. On the rare occasion you are called out, overtime rates are paid. The OOHs rota is 1:4 weekends, which includes your regular Saturday shift (10-4) and a set weeknight each week. There are no additional Saturdays.

Outside of work

Our team isn’t just colleagues; we're friends who enjoy spending time together outside work. Whether heading out for a dog walk, hitting the lanes for some friendly competition at bowling night, or firing up the grill for a summer BBQ, we know how to have fun together.

Nestled in the heart of Fife, Glenrothes puts you centre stage for all of Scotland's best adventures. Fancy award-winning beaches? Aberdour and St Andrews are just a short hop away. Time to dust off those hiking boots? The stunning Lomond Hills Regional Park is practically on our doorstep, perfect for hill walking. And if you're craving city buzz, Edinburgh and Dundee are both within a 45-minute drive, so you can have your city fix and be back in nature in no time!

We are offering:

  • Salary of £26,000 - £32,000
  • 5.6 weeks holiday, including bank holidays
  • CPD encouraged and supported to certificate level
  • Professional fees paid for RCVS and VDS
  • Employee discount

Company

Kingdom Veterinary Clinic is a long established practice with our main clinic based in Glenrothes town centre.

We also have a branch clinic in Lochgelly, providing care for the animals of the surrounding community.

In addition to cats, dogs and rabbits we also look after many other small mammals including ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, gerbils and chinchillas. We also provide a range of treatments for birds and exotic pets such as reptiles and amphibians.

Kingdom Veterinary Clinic is voluntarily regularly inspected by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to ensure the highest standards of care.

Whilst we are the largest practice in Glenrothes, we pride ourselves on providing a professional yet friendly environment and care for our clients as much as their pets!

Our Glenrothes clinic is open evenings and weekends for those who work long hours. We are easily accessible in the town centre and have our own large car park. As of September 2016, we continue to provide our own 24 hour emergency service staffed by our own staff from our own purpose built building. This means that we will have full access to your pets’ medical history and your pet will be in familiar surroundings with a familiar face!
