Job Details

Due to internal promotion into a leadership role, we are now seeking a confident vet ready to take the next step in their careers by joining our independent practices in Somerset. There is an opening for an experienced vet to join our RCVS Tier 3 Hospital practice in Wells (certificate holders encouraged); there could also be scope for a more recent graduate who has completed their GDP to join our small but mighty Weston-super-mare ‘satellite’ practice. The flexibility to work across both sites would be a distinct advantage.

About Us

Nurture Pet Health is an independent well established Vet practice (formerly we ran as two separate businesses under the same ownership - Westfield and Summerlane Vets) and we are extremely proud of our dedicated and passionate team – they are the reason that Nurture can be so unique and provide exceptional pet and people care.

The Role

Are you a vet with good clinical and surgical experience, maybe with a certificate or a desire to complete one in the next few years, who is looking for a position in a supportive hospital practice? Or are you a recent graudate who has completed your GDP and is looking for their next challenge?  Or maybe you're looking for the flexibility to combine part-time hours with outside hobbies and family life. For us, number of years qualified is less important than exposure to clinical cases and responsibilities - if you have confidence, a positive outlook, and enjoy working in a close-knit team then we would love to hear from you and will help to create a perfectly balanced role!

In both our sites, a usual working day may include a mixture of ops, diagnostic work-ups, dentistry procedures and consults. Standard appointments are 20 minutes long, with 40 minutes for euthanasia’s, second opinions, complex cases etc. Admin time is booked out for phone calls, lab reports etc and you get an hour’s lunch (in Weston that allows time to go for a walk on the beach, or in Wells you're only a 5 minute walk from the beautiful city). You can expect great support from a fabulous, experienced nursing team (who consult daily), a happy reception team and a highly capable Practice Manager for those admin tasks that we all prefer to delegate!

We feel very fortunate to have a wonderful, friendly client base who are motivated to do the best for their pets. We allocate time for monthly vet meetings across both sites, which is a great opportunity to discuss cases and bounce ideas, as well as regular M&M rounds.  At both practices, there are a full range of IDEXX lab machines for in-house testing, laparoscopic surgical equipment, digital x-ray, handheld dental x-ray and there is shared use of bronchoscope and gastroscope.

The Weston practice runs as a ‘satellite’ to our large Tier 3 Hospital practice in Wells. The out of hours from Weston is covered by Langford Vet School, but inpatients requiring ongoing hospitalisation can be transported to Wells in our dedicated ambulance. In Wells, we cover our own out of hours and have a dedicated night nursing team who are on site 24/7.

Our full-time team enjoy a 4-day working week and Saturday’s 8am – 4pm on a shared rota. Roles involve a shared proportion of the on call rota for weeknights and weekends, currently standing at 1:6 (with a day off after your weekend on call). There is a newly refurbished flat in the Grade II listed building which houses the Wells Hospital which is available for on call staff.

Every day we feel proud to be part of something special and of the people we work with. As a team we believe in the absolute best patient and client care, with kindness at the heart of what we do. If you are a like-minded individual who shares our values, and would like to be part of our journey to create something special, please do not hesitate to pick up the phone for an informal chat or email your application and any questions.

Company

We are a dedicated small animal veterinary practice in Worle, near Weston-Super-Mare, run by friendly small animal vets who care about you and your pets. We are all pet owners ourselves and know what it’s like to have your furry (or scaly) friends as part of the family.

Our team of qualified nurses are registered with the RCVS. They perform nurse clinics, assist the vets with surgical procedures, care for inpatients, and are able to offer advice no matter how trivial the question. We are also a training practice for the University of Bristol and take both their vet students and nurses for training within the profession.

We are an RCVS Accredited practice. This means the practice undergoes rigorous inspections to ensure animals are getting the best care and attention they deserve. RCVS Accreditation is a voluntary quality assurance programme, so not all veterinary practices undergo such inspections to ensure their care is of the highest standards. We feel this is important to give our clients peace of mind, and ourselves a sense of achievement in the service we provide.
