Fix or Flex – find the right work-life balance for you

Are you a Veterinary Surgeon looking for a consult-only role? This position can be worked over 2-5 days per week, we are happy to discuss the exact number of hours, shift lengths and days worked, to allow for a great work/life balance.
We are open to a variety of working hours Monday-Friday, with a commitment to 1:3 Saturdays. We would envisage that this role would continue to offer consultations over the lunch period, we would consider no inpatient duty shifts possible with this role but being part of the Saturday rota would be negotiable. This role could be part of a job share or more than one person covering these hours.

Join our talented team of Vets

We have 3 practices within our group, Showground Road and Robins Drive in Bridgwater and Berrow Road in Burnham on sea. The main Blake Practice is well-equipped with a highly skilled team, based just outside North Petherton.
We are a friendly, supportive team who constantly strive for clinical excellence. The team takes great pride in the relationships they have built with their patients, clients, and the local community.

The Blake name has been a big part of Bridgwater’s Veterinary world for over 20 years, with clients from Bridgwater, North Petherton as well as Cannington to Nether Stowey. The Small animal practice has built over the years and with its fantastic loyal clients, it can be a fast-paced place to work. As this role would solely be consultation based, we would be looking for the right person to join the team and deliver the same great experience over the lunch period to offer continuous service throughout the whole day.

Are you the perfect fit?

Our clients and patients are at the heart of everything we do, our ideal candidate will have excellent consultation skills, and be able to communicate well with our clients. An approachable and consultative style is essential in this role.
We are happy to support anyone interested in further training, studying for a certificate, or who wishes to gain further leadership and management training. We are looking for someone who strives for clinical excellence, client, and patient care, has a passion for doing things right clinically, and importantly is a great team player.

Because our employees matter

The practice offers a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to pet owners from its veterinary teams in Bridgwater and Burnham on Sea. There are seven vets and nine nurses operating from the two sites covering an area stretching from the Mendips to the Quantocks and from the Bristol Channel out across the Somerset Levels.

Blake Vets can trace its roots back to circa 1895  and originally had it's Bridgwater premises in the town centre before moving to its current purpose built surgery on Showground Road, just off Taunton Road in 2004.

Since 2008, we have focused soley on providing high quality care to companion animals in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Jim Hughes, Sue Webster and Richard Bruce are the directors of the practice and are assisted by four other experienced veterinary surgeons.

We have a strong nursing team of six qualified and two student nurses to support the vets led by our Head Nurse Rachel Watkins RVN who has over 20 years of veterinary nursing experience.

Qualified and student nurses are skilled professionals who take consultations and perform certain minor surgical procedures. They are able to give advice on all aspects of small animal care, take blood pressure measurements and blood samples and clip nails to name but a few of their skills.

We are committed to the whole team's continued development, from the office staff, receptionists, nurses to the vets through post-graduate training, both in-house and externally.  Everyone is encouraged to develop their own personal skills and interests within the practice. Some areas of special interest include eye problems, skin conditions, heart disease, reptiles, diagnostic imaging, feline medicine, soft tissue surgery, dentistry and oral healthcare for life of our dogs, cats and rabbits.

All patients who need to stay in overnight are given 24 hour, on-site, nursing care at our Bridgwater surgery

Burnham on Sea Surgery
