Meet like-minded professionals

Ashleigh Veterinary Centre currently has eleven veterinary surgeons, ten registered veterinary nurses, three trainee veterinary nurses, seven auxiliary veterinary nurses, eight receptionists and a practice manager. This role is for cat and dog work. You will be working alongside colleagues from diverse backgrounds with many years of experience and qualifications– 3 exotic cert holders, 1 currently sitting ECC cert and 1 sitting ophthalmology cert. We actively encourage career progression and would happily support further accreditation in your chosen field.

Be part of something exceptional

We are very well equipped with digital xrays, video endoscopy, rigid endoscopy, dental xray, ultrasound, slit lamp etc. which means we can cater for most patient’s needs. We also have a great group of nurses with exotic animal nursing qualifications, and support staff who are an essential part of our team.

We are 2.5 miles from the vibrant centre of Manchester and 1 mile from Old Trafford. The peak district can be reached in 30 minutes and the lake district, or beaches within 1 hour. We also have excellent transport links, being at the axis of the motorways and Manchester airport being a 10-minute drive.

About Us

Ashleigh vets has been very proudly caring for the pets of south Manchester for the last 50 years and is fortunate to have a lovely client base and good reputation. We are lucky enough to have a wonderful cohesive team. We are looking for someone who has the same values as we do – is this you?

We are a supportive, caring, busy practice with fantastic teamwork. We have great clients and a wide variety of patients! We aim to provide a high standard of veterinary care, and we have a great local reputation. We pride ourselves on giving honest advice and we don’t work to targets.

We are RCVS silver accredited, and rabbit welfare silver accredited. We are staffed 24 hours a day for improved patient welfare and client care (we have a dedicated out-of-hours team of vets/nurses, as well as auxiliary nurses who look after our in-patient OOH).

Salary and Rota

The rota is based on a 4 day a week, 1 weekend (mornings only) in 5 – 6. Shift patterns on weekdays are a mix of 9 - 4 and 9 - 7. There is a separate out-of-hours team, but you will be 2nd on call one day a week and one weekend in 5 primarily for advice for the out-of-hours vet or nurse.

The rota is designed to give a great work-life balance, based on 40 hours and a 4-day week. Should a 5-day week be preferred to suit your lifestyle better, or part-time, then we would happily accommodate this.

We are based at two sites;

Chorlton – our main branch has our small animal work and our Avian and Exotic Referral Clinic. Here we see both cat and dog patients, and first opinion and referral exotic patients.

Sale - our NEW Cat-only Clinic where we provide consults and routine surgeries.

What do we look for in you?

We are seeking a friendly, organised, adaptable, and dependable individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can work and lead within a large supportive team as well as independently.  What matters most to us is your attitude and your commitment to delivering the highest standards of patient care and championing our values.

Ashleigh Veterinary Centre has been a veterinary practice since 1963. For the first twenty-five years Ian McKinlay MRCVS and his wife, Susan, ran the practice together. Since Ian’s retirement 1987 Ashleigh Veterinary Centre has been owned and managed by Aidan Raftery and Bernard Wynne.

In December 2007 Matt Saunby became a third owner of the practice. The practice has now grown to employ five veterinary surgeons, ten qualified veterinary nurses, three auxiliary veterinary nurses and a practice manager .

Ashleigh Veterinary Centre now occupies the whole building, as well as a purpose built extension to the rear. As a larger practice we are able to maintain the high level of equipment and facilities needed to provide the best modern treatment for the well-being and comfort of your pet.

Our high standards have allowed us to attract caring and skilled vets and nurses who wish to work in a challenging and friendly environment. The practice has been approved as having the facilities needed for qualified veterinary surgeon specialist level. Advanced qualifications have been obtained in Canine and Feline Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Exotic Animal Medicine and Surgery by veterinary surgeons working at Ashleigh Veterinary Centre.
