Who are we?

We are an independent modern small animal hospital based in Meopham, Kent, with 3 sister practices in Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Swanscombe. We have a great reputation and see a wide variety of first opinion and referral cases from all over the Southeast. We launched our dedicated 3-vet night team in 2022 as we felt it was the best way to enhance our team's work-life balance and provide a better service for everyone. Thomas, Anna, and Ewa have been fantastic additions to the Meopham team. Sadly for us, Anna is moving on to an internship at the RVC, so we are looking for an experienced ECC vet to join our established night team.

“I have worked at Meopham Veterinary Hospital for nearly two years. From the get-go, I was impressed by the professionalism of the whole team and the warmth with which I was greeted. Management is inclusive and extremely generous in sharing their extensive knowledge of veterinary care. The hospital has the latest equipment, allowing me to focus my attention on the health and care of animals during the night. Much of the care is often for emergencies; these circumstances can be challenging for the owners, so it is brilliant to know I can immediately reassure them that their trust in us is well-founded. It’s a great place for career development, and further qualifications are strongly supported and encouraged.  I have worked in four other night vet roles, and I have never been happier than I am at MVH.” Thomas MRCVS

"I have been out-of-hours veterinary surgeon for 7+ years and working in Meopham for the past 13 months. I am incredibly grateful for the supportive team at MVH. It is by far one of the most dedicated teams that I have ever met, with superb standards of care, always striving for excellence. There is always a brain to pick when complex cases come through the door, and everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand. All my colleagues are brilliantly skilled and are an absolute pleasure to work with. Being situated in a quaint countryside village also brings in lovely and loyal clients. There are ample opportunities provided to learn and progress, plus certificates are very much supported. I would recommend this practice to anyone looking for a truly wonderful team and a great hospital with advanced facilities." Ewa MRCVS

We are a 19-vet team with 11 certificates between us, including 3 in surgery and diagnostic imaging, 2 in medicine and 1 in ophthalmology, anaesthesia and ECC. Four more vets are studying for certificates in cardiology and medicine, and Bruce is going for a practice record of 5 certificates- clearly a glutton for punishment! As you can see, CPD and training are especially important to us; for example, if you haven’t experienced working with a CT or blood gas machines, don’t let that be a barrier; we will support your training and development in these and other areas. We often do in-house training, and recent surgical teaching sessions have included entropion, cherry eye, and amputation.

Meopham Veterinary Hospital

We have superb facilities, including laparoscopy, 16 slice CT, DR radiography, doppler ultrasound, endoscopy (including paediatric bronchoscopy), multiparameter monitors, syringe drivers, blood gas and coagulation analysers. Everything you need to provide great ECC care.

We have a culture of listening; your input and ideas really matter here. We believe in evidence-based medicine, constantly reviewing what we do and always striving for the best. We also run clinical clubs every Thursday morning.

We’re a really sociable bunch and regularly enjoy getting together outside of work. Many of our vet team also attend clubs in the evenings; cricket, hockey, and amateur dramatics are some of the activities our vets enjoy.

We have low staff turnover and generally don’t have the need for locums. EMS students and visitors to the practice comment on how well all areas of the team get on; nobody is too busy or too important to stop and help.

What our team say about us

“I have been part of the team at Meopham Veterinary Hospital since before I qualified; I did most of my EMS here, and by the time I qualified, I couldn't have imagined working anywhere else. When I started as a new graduate, I felt supported by my colleagues. I always knew there was someone to ask clinical questions and support me through the trials and tribulations of being a new graduate vet. I was also allowed to be independent and manage my own cases from an early stage, which helped me gain confidence and develop. There are plenty of opportunities and encouragement to learn new procedures and techniques, even at my current stage, when I have been working here for six years. The potential for growth is great, whatever stage of your career you are in. I am now the Head Vet of our Tonbridge branch.” Abigail MRCVS

“Having joined Meopham Vets in September 2020, fresh out of university and in the midst of COVID, it was a turbulent time in the industry for any vet- let alone a new graduate! However, the support from all staff, from senior clinicians to admin support teams, was and still is great and creates a workplace that values and strives for excellence and pursuing passions. Vets and nurses are supported to complete certificates in fields of interest, and frequent vets meetings mean that clinical discussion and collaboration are encouraged. Work-life balance is also important, and the rota can usually be managed to ensure that extra-curricular activities don't need to be forfeited.” Lauryn MRCVS

Meopham Veterinary Hospital

“I joined the practice in 2011 as a new graduate; the practice has supported me from a fresh-faced newbie to a double certificate holder. The boss is very supportive of further education and actively encourages the vets and qualified nurses to pursue certificates. It's a very progressive place to work with a great attitude toward being flexible to keep staff long-term. Since I've been here, the practice has gone through many facelifts. We have grown into a hospital with three branches and a CT and continue to grow.” Penny MRCVS

''I started working for Meopham Veterinary Hospital immediately after graduation in 2011 and have progressed to being the head vet of one of the branches. The team are fantastic, and the practice has a very high standard of care. We have a very varied caseload and are supported by a brilliant night team and many colleagues with a wide range of expert experience, knowledge and skills. Advanced qualifications are actively encouraged and supported. It is a fantastic practice, whether you are a new grad or looking for a new challenge.'' Lauren MRCVS

“During my final years of university, I had the opportunity to gain experience with Meopham Veterinary Hospital, and from this point, I have never experienced a better work environment. I have worked here since graduating in 2020 and have loved every minute. As a new graduate, finding the right team for you is so important, and Meopham really was that for me. We are a close team and really value each other. I have the confidence to work up cases but the support from colleagues when required. I'm really proud of the progression they have guided me through since graduation and would recommend highly to those looking for a friendly, dedicated, high-standard working environment.” Charlotte MRCVS
